Short answer

Oracle publishes its ERP APIs per product on docs.oracle.com. For Fusion Cloud ERP and SCM there are REST API guides, SOAP web service guides, FBDI file imports and BI Publisher reports; for NetSuite there are SuiteTalk REST and SOAP, SuiteQL and RESTlets. Pick the product first, then the style of API, then match your authentication and the exact release version.

Applies to: Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP / SCM (quarterly releases) and Oracle NetSuite. On-premises JD Edwards and E-Business Suite have separate API sets.

How to find and use the right Oracle API

  1. 1Decide the product: Fusion Cloud ERP or SCM, NetSuite, E-Business Suite or JD Edwards. The documentation is entirely separate for each.
  2. 2For Fusion, open docs.oracle.com, find your release, and look for the REST API for Oracle Fusion Cloud Financials, Procurement, SCM and similar guides, plus the SOAP Web Services guides.
  3. 3Note the base path and version in the guide. Fusion REST lives under paths such as fscmRestApi, hcmRestApi and crmRestApi, followed by a version segment and the resource name.
  4. 4Choose the style: REST for transactional reads and writes, SOAP for services without REST, FBDI (file-based data import) for bulk loads, and BI Publisher or OTBI for reporting.
  5. 5Set up authentication: basic auth with an integration user for testing, or OAuth 2.0 and JWT through Oracle Identity for production.
  6. 6Grant the integration user least-privilege roles for the data you need and test in a non-production pod.
  7. 7Call the endpoint using query parameters for filtering, paging and expanding children.
  8. 8For NetSuite, use the SuiteTalk REST Web Services guide and the REST API Browser from the NetSuite help center.

Fusion Cloud: REST, SOAP, FBDI and reports

Fusion REST resources return JSON and support common query parameters. Typical ones are q for filters, limit and offset for paging, fields to trim the payload, expand to bring child records and onlyData=true to drop link metadata. A header named REST-Framework-Version selects the framework behaviour in some resources; check the guide for the version you call.

Not every business function has a REST resource. Some are SOAP-only, and high-volume loads are designed for FBDI: you build a CSV in Oracle's template, upload it to the content repository, then run an Enterprise Scheduler process to import it. For reporting, BI Publisher data models can be called through a report service, and OTBI analyses suit self-service.

GET https://<host>/fscmRestApi/resources/<version>/<resource>?limit=25&offset=0&onlyData=true&q=Status="ACTIVE"
Authorization: Bearer <token>

NetSuite: SuiteTalk, SuiteQL and RESTlets

NetSuite offers SuiteTalk REST for record operations under the services/rest/record path, a SuiteQL endpoint for SQL-like queries and SOAP web services for older integrations. When standard records are not enough, SuiteScript RESTlets let you publish custom endpoints. Authentication is token-based (TBA) or OAuth 2.0, and the integration role needs the Log in using Access Tokens and web services permissions.

See the NetSuite SuiteTalk page on this site for record operations, and the Fusion REST page for pagination and authentication details.

Manufacturing data specifically

For manufacturing, the useful Fusion REST resources cover items, work orders, supply and demand, and purchase orders, but names vary by release; browse the REST API for Oracle Fusion Cloud SCM guide index for your version. In NetSuite, work orders, assembly builds and bills of materials are standard records reachable through REST or SuiteQL.

Rate limits and governance apply on both platforms. Cache reference data, batch requests and prefer reports or FBDI for large volumes rather than looping single-record calls.

Common pitfalls

  • !Reading documentation for the wrong release, then calling resource names that do not exist in your pod.
  • !Using a personal admin account for integrations instead of a dedicated user with limited roles.
  • !Looping single-record REST calls for bulk loads that FBDI is designed for.
  • !Ignoring paging; many resources return a default page size and hasMore flags.
  • !Confusing Fusion Cloud documentation with E-Business Suite or JD Edwards documentation.

How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this

The documentation is large, and the practical issue is mapping a business question to a resource and a filter. A grounded assistant (ERPray is read-only by default and shows what it called) can translate a question about open purchase orders or late work orders into the right call using your own roles and data. Cloud-hosted ERPs still send data to Oracle, but the assistant layer and its model can run in your own environment so extracted data is not shared with a public AI service. Oracle's own embedded AI is worth evaluating first if you only need it inside Oracle screens.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Oracle Fusion ERP REST API documentation?

On docs.oracle.com under Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications, in the REST API guides for your area (Financials, Procurement, SCM and so on). Choose your release to see the correct resources, versions and query parameters.

Does Oracle ERP use REST or SOAP?

Both. Fusion Cloud has REST for many resources and SOAP services for functions without REST. Bulk imports use FBDI files, and reporting uses BI Publisher or OTBI. NetSuite has SuiteTalk REST and SOAP, SuiteQL and custom RESTlets.

How do I authenticate to the Oracle ERP Cloud API?

Basic authentication with an integration user works for testing. For production, use OAuth 2.0 or JWT-based flows configured through your identity setup, with a dedicated integration user holding only the needed roles.

What is the difference between FBDI and REST?

REST handles individual records in real time. FBDI is a file-based import for high-volume data, using Oracle's spreadsheet templates, uploaded and processed by scheduled import processes. Use REST for interactive integration and FBDI for bulk loads.

How-to

Paginate And Authenticate Oracle Fusion REST API Calls Correctly

Oracle Fusion Cloud REST APIs authenticate with HTTP Basic Authentication, an integration user's credentials, over HTTPS by default, and paginate with limit and offset query parameters rather than a page number. Loop on the hasMore flag in the response until it returns false to retrieve a full result set.

Advanced

Working with NetSuite's SuiteTalk REST Web Services API

SuiteTalk REST exposes NetSuite records at https://ACCOUNTID.suitetalk.api.netsuite.com/services/rest/record/v1/{recordType}/{id} and ad hoc SQL-like queries at /services/rest/query/v1/suiteql, both authenticated with TBA or OAuth 2.0. It returns JSON, paginates large result sets with limit/offset and a hasMore flag, and needs expandSubResources or a specific fields query to pull sublist and related data efficiently.

How-to

Connect Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) To Fusion ERP

OIC connects to Fusion ERP primarily through the prebuilt ERP Cloud Adapter, which wraps Fusion's REST and SOAP web services with OAuth-based authentication and pick-list discovery of available business objects and operations, instead of you hand-building every REST call. Use the adapter for standard integrations; drop to a generic REST or SOAP adapter only when the ERP Cloud Adapter does not yet expose the specific service you need.

How-to

Oracle EBS REST API: Integrated SOA Gateway and PL/SQL APIs

Oracle E-Business Suite exposes APIs through the Integration Repository, which catalogs PL/SQL public APIs, open interfaces, business events and web services. Integrated SOA Gateway (ISG) can deploy selected interface definitions as REST or SOAP services. You find the API, deploy it, grant a user access, and call it over HTTPS with the right application context.

Error fix

Fix FBDI Import Failures From Interface Table Validation Errors

When a Fusion FBDI import job errors out, the cause is almost always bad data in the interface tables (an invalid value set, a wrong date format, or a missing required column), not the ESS job itself. Open the process's Interface Errors Report or the Correct Import Errors spreadsheet to see the exact rejected rows and reason codes, fix the source data, and resubmit from the interface tables instead of re-running the whole FBDI load.

Error fix

Clear An Oracle Fusion ESS Job Stuck In Blocked Status

A Blocked status on an Oracle Fusion Enterprise Scheduler (ESS) job almost always means an earlier instance of the exact same job is still running or stuck, and the job definition does not allow simultaneous requests. Find and finish, or cancel, the earlier request first; only then does the Blocked request move to Running.
