How BarTender connects to Infor LN (CloudSuite)
Documented optional third-party integration
Infor's LN CloudSuite integration guide lists BarTender. Follow Infor's and Seagull's current documentation for your version for the exact trigger and data hand-off.
Data hand-off commonly used with BarTender
BarTender can pick up data from files, databases or web service triggers and merge it into templates. In an LN setup that usually means LN or middleware writing a label request that BarTender Integration Builder or a similar listener processes. This is general BarTender practice, not a statement of what Infor ships.
What data moves
| From | To | Data | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infor LN | BarTender | Item, lot, serial, quantity, order and customer data for the label | Receipt, pack, ship or production completion |
| BarTender | Printers | Rendered label or RFID encoding job | Label request received |
| BarTender | Infor LN or log | Print status for reprints and audit | Job complete or failed |
| RFID encoder | BarTender | Tag write verification | After encoding, if used |
Setting it up
- 1List label typesInventory item, pallet, shipping, customer-compliance and RFID labels and who prints each.
- 2Get the integration documentationPull the LN CloudSuite integration guide and Seagull's notes for your versions.
- 3Define the field set per labelDecide exactly which LN fields feed each template, including lot, serial, UoM and dates.
- 4Build templates in BarTenderCreate templates with fixed layouts, barcode symbologies and customer-specified formats.
- 5Wire the triggerConnect the LN event to a BarTender request in a test company and print to a test printer.
- 6Configure printers and serversSet up printers, drivers and queues, with a spare for each critical station.
- 7Test reprints and failuresDecide who can reprint, how it is logged and what happens when a printer is offline.
- 8Version the templatesKeep templates in source control and test them against each LN update.
What usually breaks
- !Barcode content differing from what the customer's spec expects, such as missing application identifiers in GS1 labels.
- !Unit of measure on the label not matching the shipped UoM in LN.
- !Lot or serial numbers truncated by a field length in the template.
- !Duplicate labels printed when a trigger fires twice after a retry.
- !Template changes made directly on a production server and lost at the next deployment.
- !RFID tags written without a verification step, discovered only at the customer dock.
A private AI layer across both systems
Label exception triage
A private assistant reads failed print jobs together with the LN order and explains whether the cause is data, template or printer.
Customer spec checker
It compares a customer's labeling specification document with your template fields and lists gaps for a person to confirm.
Reprint audit
It highlights unusual reprint volumes by user or item so you can see process problems early.
Plain-language questions
Let supervisors ask which shipments have no label printed yet, answered read-only from LN and BarTender logs.

Packaging Line Clearance and Label Reconciliation Checklist
Confirm the line is clear of old materials and that printed labels reconcile before and after a packaging run.
When something else fits better
- Use LN's built-in report and label output if your labels are simple and few.
- Use a warehouse mobility add-on that prints its own labels if you already run RF scanning.
- Use customer or carrier portals' label tools for shipping-only labels.
Frequently asked questions
Is BarTender officially supported with LN?
Infor's LN CloudSuite documentation lists BarTender as an optional third-party integration. The public page does not describe the technical mechanism, so confirm supported versions and the hand-off with Infor and Seagull.
Can BarTender run on-prem?
Yes, BarTender is installed software that you run on your own servers, which suits plants that keep label printing inside the network. Check the licensing edition for the number of printers and users you need.
Does it handle RFID?
BarTender supports RFID encoding as well as barcodes, and Infor's listing mentions RFID tags. Verify the encoder models and tag standards your customers require and test read-back.
Who owns the label template?
Decide this early. Operations usually owns the layout, IT owns the data mapping, and quality approves customer-specific formats. Keep all templates in version control.
