abas ERP and proALPHA Private AI Layer Blueprint Generator

Private AI Layer Architecture Plan: abas ERP and proALPHA

Company: Rheinwerk Maschinenbau GmbH System and version: abas ERP and proALPHA, proALPHA (current release) Database: Progress OpenEdge Hosting: On-prem server Named users: 150 Sites or plants: 2 GPU: 1-2 x 48 GB class GPUs Target go-live: 2027-05-31

Context and objectives

Rheinwerk Maschinenbau GmbH wants an AI assistant over its abas ERP and proALPHA data and documents that runs inside its own environment (On-prem server). The assistant must answer questions in natural language, show the data behind each answer, respect existing user permissions and remain read-only until approvals are in place.

Main use cases: Production order status and material shortages in German. Lookups of customer orders and delivery dates. Search of order confirmations, certificates and work instructions.

Data boundaries

The following data must never leave the site and must stay out of any external service: Personnel and time-recording data. Customer price agreements. Drawings under customer NDA.

All processing, indexing and model inference run on infrastructure controlled by Rheinwerk Maschinenbau GmbH.

Write-back controlNo writes in phases 1 and 2; later writes only through supported APIs with named approversRisk appetite of Rheinwerk Maschinenbau GmbH

Rollout plan

PhaseScopeExit criteria
1. Read-only questionsApproved views and documents for a pilot group; answers show their sourcesAccuracy sampled by owners; no permission leaks in review; log reviewed weekly
2. DraftsAssistant drafts emails, summaries and suggested changes for a person to copyUsers edit less over time; no unreviewed output leaves the system
3. Approved actionsSelected actions executed through supported APIs after human approvalApprover named per action; rollback tested; go-live target 2027-05-31

Open questions for IT

1. How fresh must answers be: real time, minutes or daily? 2. Which companies, databases or libraries are in scope across 2 site(s)? 3. Who owns document permissions and how are they mapped to abas ERP and proALPHA roles? 4. Which customisations or custom tables must be exposed? 5. What is the backup, monitoring and patching plan for the GPU host? 6. Who approves any write-back and through which supported interface? 7. Is a pilot group of 10 to 20 users available for phase 1?

Optional abas and proALPHA plan review

We can review the plan with you and your ERP partner.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the blueprint

Select abas, proALPHA or both, then your release and database. Describe the questions in German or English that users ask, and list data that must stay on site, such as personnel records and customer NDA drawings. The plan assigns each to a layer: reporting store, retrieval index, local model, tool server, identity and audit.

What abas and proALPHA specifics it assumes

abas stores data in its own database and is reached through the vendor's interfaces, so the plan builds an interface-based reader into a reporting store. proALPHA has historically used Progress OpenEdge with SQL access, so the plan uses a read-only copy and curated views. Both depend on release and licence, which the open questions ask IT to confirm.

Reading the output and common mistakes

Treat the open questions as the agenda for IT, the data protection officer and, where relevant, the works council. Common mistakes are assuming abas is plain SQL, guessing table names, skipping a German-language model evaluation and giving the service identity administrator rights. Use your partner's data dictionary for names.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the plan GDPR compliant?

It supports GDPR goals by keeping processing on your servers, limiting access and logging use. Compliance also needs a lawful basis, a records entry and review by your data protection officer.

Does it work for both systems at once?

Yes. Select Both systems and the plan describes a shared model, index and tool server with a separate data path for each ERP. The open questions cover consolidation.

Will a local model handle German?

Several open-weight models do. The plan includes an evaluation step on your own part descriptions and order texts, because ERP language is terse.

Can it run air-gapped?

Yes. Pick the air-gapped hosting option and the plan keeps every component inside the enclave with model files brought in on controlled media.
