GST Inclusive and Exclusive Price Calculator

People often have a total price and need the tax inside it, or a base price and need the final amount. This calculator does both. Choose whether the amount includes GST, pick the rate and the supply type, and it returns taxable value, CGST, SGST or IGST and the invoice total.

How to use it

Type the amount, select whether it already includes GST, and choose a rate. For a sale within one state, the tax splits equally into CGST and SGST. For a sale to another state, the whole amount is IGST. The primary result is the invoice total, and the table shows each component so you can paste it into a quote, a PO or a voucher. Change the rate to compare how the same price behaves at two slabs.

The formula

When the amount excludes GST, taxable value equals the amount and GST equals taxable value times the rate divided by 100. When the amount includes GST, taxable value equals the amount divided by one plus the rate over 100. For example, Rs 118,000 inclusive at 18 percent gives a taxable value of Rs 100,000 and GST of Rs 18,000. Do not take 18 percent of 118,000, which overstates the tax. The gap grows with the rate.

  • Inclusive: taxable = price / (1 + rate / 100)
  • Exclusive: total = price x (1 + rate / 100)
  • Intra-state: CGST and SGST each equal half of GST

Common mistakes

The usual mistake is multiplying the inclusive price by the rate. Others include applying the wrong slab to a product, mixing CGST and IGST on the same sale, and rounding each tax head separately so that the total differs by a rupee. Some goods attract compensation cess or additional levies that this calculator does not include. For a stated invoice, rely on the figures from your accounting software and use this tool for quotes and cross-checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate GST from the total amount?

Divide the total by one plus the GST rate as a fraction, for example 1.18 for 18 percent, to get the taxable value. The difference between the total and the taxable value is the GST.

When is IGST charged?

IGST applies to inter-state supplies, imports and exports with payment of tax, and supplies to or from special economic zones. Within the same state, CGST and SGST apply. Place of supply rules decide edge cases.

Does it include cess?

No. Compensation cess or other levies on specific goods are not calculated here. Add them separately according to the notification for your product.

Why does my software show a different paisa?

Software rounds at different stages, per line or per invoice. A difference of a rupee or less is usually a rounding choice. Follow the rounding rule configured in your accounting system.
