JD Edwards Work Order Status Codes Template

In JD Edwards EnterpriseOne the work order status field lives on the work order master (F4801) and is driven by user defined codes, so no two sites mean exactly the same thing by status 30 or 50. This worksheet lets you write down what each code means in your plant, who may move an order into it and what it allows.

The values above are examples only. Work order status codes are user defined codes (UDC system 00, type SS) and every site configures its own. Replace the rows with the codes in your own UDC table and your Shop Floor Management setup.

Status and aging report from your F4801 data

Optional: we can review your work order status design against live order data and suggest cleanup.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the worksheet

Start by pulling your current list from the UDC program (P0004A, system 00, type SS) and typing each code into a row. Then fill in the lifecycle phase, the role that owns the order in that status and the codes it may move to next. The last columns record whether costs may post and whether the order is still visible to planning. Export to Excel and review the result with production control, maintenance planning and cost accounting before you change any setup.

  • One row per status code in your UDC table
  • Write the allowed next codes as a short list, for example 30, 45, 99
  • Use the note column for rules such as a mandatory hold reason
  • Keep one worksheet per order type if types use different flows

Where status is controlled in JDE

Status behaviour is not one switch. The order type setup, the Shop Floor Management constants, the status code processing in Work Order Entry and any custom edits all influence which moves are allowed. Many sites also rely on the status to decide when material can be issued or hours can be entered. Documenting it in one place exposes conflicts, such as two codes that mean the same thing or a status that planning still reads after the order is complete.

Reading the finished design

Look for dead ends first: any code that has no allowed next code other than closed, and any code that nobody owns. Then check the cost and planning columns against reality. An order in a status that still posts cost but is invisible to planning is a common source of confusing variances. The count of defined codes is shown at the bottom, and a long list is usually a sign that holds, rework and approval states have been mixed into one field.

Common mistakes

The biggest mistake is copying codes from another site or from a blog and assuming they match yours. A second is adding a new code without checking reports, UBEs and custom code that test the status by value. Retest anything that filters on status when you change the list, including Orchestrator steps and integrations that read F4801.

  • Treating examples as standard JDE values
  • Adding codes without searching UBEs and BSFNs that hard code values
  • Using status to carry both lifecycle and quality hold meaning
  • Leaving the closed status open to edits

Frequently Asked Questions

Are JDE work order status codes the same everywhere?

No. They are user defined codes stored in UDC system 00, type SS, and each implementation sets its own values and descriptions. Some behaviour is tied to the code through setup, so always read your own UDC table instead of relying on a published list.

Which table holds the work order status?

The work order master table F4801 holds the current status of each order. History of status changes can also be captured in related tables depending on your setup, so check your configuration before relying on it for audit reporting.

Can I use this for plant maintenance work orders?

Yes. Maintenance orders use the same work order master with different order types and often a different status flow. Keep a separate worksheet per type and export each to Excel so approvals and reviews stay clear.

Does this tool change anything in JD Edwards?

No. It runs entirely in your browser and only produces a document. Any change to UDC values or Shop Floor setup must be made in your own JDE environment, tested in a non-production path first.

If you want status flow questions answered from your own F4801 data, for example how many orders sit in each status by age, Netray can connect an on-prem assistant to your JDE database with read-only access.
