Oracle EBS MRP Exception Messages Reference

After every MRP or ASCP plan run, the planner works through exception messages in the Planner Workbench. Knowing what each message means, and which are noise, is the difference between a managed plan and a flooded inbox.

How to use this reference

Filter by group to focus on supply, demand, item or timing messages. Use the planner action column as a starting playbook for a new planner or as the basis for a standard operating procedure. Export to PDF if you need to put a one-page cheat sheet beside the planner desk.

Prioritising exceptions

Not every exception deserves the same attention. Shortages and past due orders directly threaten customer delivery, so work them first. Reschedule messages are about cost and efficiency, and cancel messages release working capital, so they follow. Items with no activity are a periodic housekeeping task, not a daily one.

  • First: shortages, past due, potential late
  • Second: reschedule in and compression days
  • Third: reschedule out and cancel
  • Periodic: excess inventory and no activity

Reducing exception noise

Too many exceptions usually point to master data and parameters, not to bad planning. Check lead times, safety stock, planning time fences, reschedule tolerance and the plan options that control which messages appear. Fixing a single wrong lead time on a high-volume item can remove hundreds of reschedule messages.

Common mistakes

Planners often release or reschedule from the workbench without checking supplier or shop capacity, which then creates fresh past due orders. Another mistake is ignoring negative beginning on hand messages, which silently distort every projected quantity for the item. Fix balances before trusting the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I see MRP exceptions in Oracle EBS?

Use the Planner Workbench, where exceptions are summarised by type and drill down to the items and orders. The underlying data is stored in the MRP tables for the plan you ran.

What does Reschedule In mean?

It means the supply order currently arrives after the date it is needed, so it should be moved earlier. It is the planner's signal to expedite the order.

Why do I get Orders to be cancelled?

The plan found supply with no demand to consume it. This often follows a demand drop, a forecast change, or an order that was already covered by other supply.

Are the exception names the same in ASCP?

Most are similar, but ASCP adds exceptions that relate to resource and material constraints. Confirm the list in your own Planner Workbench.

If your planners spend hours triaging exceptions, we can build a read-only agent over your EBS planning data that ranks them by customer impact.
