Infor M3 Implementation Effort Estimator

Early in an M3 project you need an order of magnitude, not a quote. This calculator turns scope drivers into effort days, services cost and indicative duration so you can test budgets and compare scenarios.

This is a planning heuristic built on assumed per-item effort values. Real effort varies widely with process complexity, data quality, customer readiness and team experience. Use it for early budgeting only and replace it with a detailed estimate from your delivery partner.

How to use the estimator

Enter the number of functional areas, sites, interfaces, custom reports and forms, conversion objects and extensions. Set your blended day rate and average team size. The calculator sums build effort across categories and adds a 60 percent allowance for testing, training, project management and hypercare. The result is total days, cost and duration. Change one input at a time to see sensitivity, and use the chart to see how adding sites changes the effort.

  • Start with the fit-gap worksheet counts for interfaces and extensions
  • Use your own historical rates if you have them
  • Run a low, expected and high scenario
  • Compare against partner quotes, not as a replacement for them

The assumptions behind the formula

Core effort uses 25 days per functional area for design, configuration and process workshops, and 18 additional days per extra site for facility and warehouse setup, localization and rollout. Each interface is 10 days for mapping, build and test. Each custom report or form is 3 days, each conversion object 8 days across mapping, loads and reconciliation, and each extension 9 days. These are planning values, and you should replace them with ratios from your own delivered work.

Reading the result

Duration is calculated as total days divided by team size and working days per month. A larger team shortens the plan only up to a point, because design decisions and business availability limit parallel work. Be careful with results below four months for multi-site projects. Treat the cost as the services portion only, and add licenses or subscriptions, infrastructure, internal staff time, training and contingency separately.

Common mistakes

Teams often leave out internal effort, which can match the provider's. Others undercount interfaces and reports because some are discovered late. Data quality is the other major swing factor: poor source data can double conversion effort. Add a contingency of at least 10 to 20 percent until the scope is settled and the fit-gap is signed off.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this estimate?

It is an early planning figure. For simple scopes it may land within a broad range of reality, but for complex multi-site projects it can be far off. Use it to frame a budget conversation, not to commit to a contract price.

Does the cost include licenses?

No. It covers services effort only. Software subscription or license, infrastructure, third party tools, your internal staff time, travel and contingency are separate lines in a full business case.

Why does adding sites change effort so much?

Each site needs its own facilities, warehouses, calendars, work centers, security and data load, plus local tax or reporting rules. The chart shows the growth, which is roughly linear here but can be steeper where regulations differ.

Can I change the per-item values?

The coefficients are fixed in this tool. Use the output as a baseline and adjust by scaling the inputs, for example entering more interfaces to mimic higher complexity, or use your own spreadsheet with ratios from past projects.
