Manufacturing KPI Formula Reference
People look up the same manufacturing formulas again and again: OEE, first pass yield, turns, takt time. This table collects the standard forms in one place, with the unit and the ERP or MES source that usually feeds each one.

Formulas are standard textbook forms. Your company may define exclusions or windows differently, so record yours in a KPI definition sheet.

How to use the reference table
Type a KPI name or an area in the search box to filter the table. Each row shows the formula in words, the unit and the typical source system. Export it to Excel or CSV to paste into your own KPI definitions. These are the textbook versions, which are the right starting point for most plants. If your customers or your auditors specify a variant, document it separately rather than editing the standard formula in place.
How the KPIs fit together
Delivery measures show what the customer feels. Flow and quality measures explain why: OEE combines availability, performance and quality, and rolled throughput yield shows how losses compound across steps. Inventory and cash measures show the financial cost of the way you run, linked by the cash conversion cycle. Choose a small set across these areas rather than many in one, so the dashboard shows cause and effect.
- OEE = Availability x Performance x Quality
- Rolled throughput yield multiplies step yields
- Cash conversion cycle = DIO + DSO - DPO
Where the data lives
Delivery and backlog live in sales order and shipment lines. Flow data comes from MES or from labor and production reporting in the ERP. Quality needs inspection results or scrap transactions. Inventory comes from valuation and cycle count tables. Cost variances come from receipts compared with standard cost. Not every ERP stores each in the same way, so confirm the actual table or report once and record it.
Common mistakes
Averaging percentages across plants rather than recomputing from totals, using revenue where the formula wants cost of goods sold, and changing the measurement window without telling anyone. With OEE, mixing planned downtime into availability on one line but not another makes comparison meaningless. Always write the exclusions beside the formula.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the OEE formula?
OEE is availability multiplied by performance multiplied by quality. Availability is run time over planned production time, performance compares ideal and actual output rates, and quality is good units over total units.
How is first pass yield different from yield?
First pass yield counts only units that passed without rework or retest. Overall yield may include units that passed after rework, so it can look better than FPY and hide hidden factory cost.
What is takt time?
Takt time is available production time divided by customer demand for the same period. It is the pace at which you must produce to meet demand, and it is different from cycle time, which is the time a station actually takes.
Can I add my own KPIs to this table?
This table is read-only. Export it to Excel, add your own rows and use the KPI definition template to record the formula, source and owner for any KPI that is specific to your business.
If you want these KPIs computed from live ERP data by plant and product family, Netray can help build the queries read-only and keep the definitions consistent.
