Mexico Import IGI, DTA and IVA Landed Cost Calculator
Importing into Mexico stacks an import duty, a customs processing fee and IVA that is charged on top of the duty. This calculator shows the stack for one shipment so a buyer or controller can compare cash due with true landed cost.
Your numbers
Transaction value plus incrementables such as freight and insurance to the border.
Rate for the tariff fraction, after any treaty or PROSEC preference.
Often 0.8 percent for general entries, but some regimes have fixed amounts.
Your results
Simplified model. Special regimes, antidumping duties, IEPS, preferential treaty rates, minimum DTA amounts and exchange-rate valuation rules are not modelled. Confirm with your customs broker.
Landed cost vs IGI rate
Sweeps IGI general import duty from 0 to 35, holding your other inputs fixed.

How to use it
Enter the customs value in dollars, the IGI rate for your tariff fraction, the DTA rate and the IVA rate. Add broker fees and indicate whether IVA is creditable for you. The tool lists each tax, the cash due at the border and the landed cost. Use the chart to see how a preferential rate would change the numbers before you chase a certificate of origin.
- Look up the tariff fraction in the current TIGIE for the rate.
- Check whether a treaty rate or a PROSEC program lowers the IGI.
- Convert to pesos at the exchange rate that customs publishes for the day.
How the tax stack works
IGI is a percentage of the customs value. DTA is a processing fee, commonly eight per thousand of customs value for general entries. IVA is then applied to the sum of customs value, IGI and DTA, which is why IVA is larger than a simple percentage of the invoice. For a company that can credit IVA, the cash outflow is temporary and the economic cost is only the financing, while for non-creditable cases it is a true cost.
Worked example
A 50,000 dollar shipment with 10 percent IGI and 0.8 percent DTA owes 5,000 dollars of IGI and 400 dollars of DTA. The IVA base is 55,400 dollars, and IVA at 16 percent is 8,864 dollars. With 650 dollars of fees, cash due is 14,914 dollars. If IVA is creditable, landed cost is 56,050 dollars, which is 12.1 percent above customs value.
Common mistakes
Mistakes include applying IVA to the invoice alone, forgetting that freight and insurance to the border are part of customs value, confusing IGI with antidumping duties, and ignoring that NOM labeling or other non-tariff requirements can add cost. Always compare your calculation with the broker's pedimento before you rely on it for pricing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is IVA charged on the duty too?
Yes. The IVA base on imports includes the customs value, the IGI and the DTA, so IVA is higher than a percentage of the invoice alone. This tool builds that base in the order the calculation is performed.
What is DTA?
Derecho de Tramite Aduanero, a customs processing fee. It is commonly a percentage of customs value, but special regimes can use fixed amounts or reduced rates. Confirm the amount that applies to your pedimento type.
Can I recover the IVA?
Generally an importer that makes taxable supplies can credit import IVA against output IVA, and specific regimes such as IMMEX certification can avoid paying it. Timing and documentation matter, so ask your tax advisor.
Does this cover antidumping duties?
No. Antidumping and countervailing duties, quotas and prior permits are separate and can be large for some Chinese or other origin goods. Add them to the fees field as a fixed amount if they apply.
Netray can pull import costs from your ERP and compare them to broker invoices automatically, so landed cost in the system matches reality.
