SyteLine Upgrade Regression Test Checklist

An ERP upgrade can pass technically and still break how people work. This checklist covers the regression tests that matter for a SyteLine or CloudSuite Industrial upgrade, from inventory and production to finance, customizations and integrations, with the critical items flagged.

Do not accept the upgrade for go live until every critical item passes and any failures are logged with an owner and a decision.

Want regression scripts drafted from your own processes?

An optional session to turn your customization list and key transactions into scripted tests you can review and run.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the checklist

Tick items as the key users complete them in the upgraded test environment, and keep notes on anything that fails. Use it with scripted tests that name the exact transactions and data to use, because vague tests produce vague results. Export the completed list as evidence for the project steering group and keep it with the go live approval record.

  • Assign each group to a named key user
  • Test with realistic data, not demo records
  • Log failures with screenshots and version information

Where upgrades usually break

The common failures are not in the standard transactions. They are in custom forms and event handlers that depended on changed behavior, integrations that call IDOs or stored procedures with altered signatures, and reports with outdated data sources. Prioritize the customization and integration group even when the project plan allots most test time to standard processes.

Comparing to a baseline

Capture results from the current version before the upgrade, for example a trial balance, an inventory valuation, a set of MRP planned orders and a few key reports. After the upgrade, compare totals and counts. Differences are not always errors, but each one needs an explanation. A baseline turns regression testing from opinion into evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should regression testing take for a SyteLine upgrade?

It depends on the number of customizations, integrations and sites. Several weeks of scripted testing with key users is common for mid-sized manufacturers, and more for heavily customized systems. Plan at least two full test cycles.

Who should perform the tests?

Key users who do the work daily, with support from the admin or consultant. IT alone cannot judge whether a pick list or a costing result is right, so business users must sign off their own areas.

Do I need to test standard functions Infor already tested?

Test the standard processes you actually use, with your configuration and data. Infor tests the product generally, but your setup, custom code and integrations are untested until you run them.

What if a critical test fails close to go live?

Log it, assess the business impact, and decide between a fix, a workaround or a delay. Do not downgrade the item silently. The rollback plan should be ready if the issue affects shipping or financial close.
