Adapt headings to your site rules. For regulated work, keep the daily report as a supplement to the weld traveler and weld log, not a replacement, since the code records must still capture each welder, WPS and pass.

Auto-generate shift reports from ERP data

Ask for a short review of how labor, consumables and quality data could feed a daily report automatically.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use it

Complete the report at the end of each shift. Fill in the crew, hours and joint progress using the weld log, then add consumables and delays. Be specific in the delays field, since 'waiting' is not a root cause but 'waiting for crane, 1.5 hours' is. Add the next shift plan so the oncoming supervisor starts with clear priorities. Export to PDF and attach it to the project file, or to Word to merge several days into a weekly report.

  • Use joint IDs from the weld map
  • Quote hours, not 'long delay'
  • Record quality events the same day
  • Handover verbally as well as on paper

What the report is for

It serves three readers. Project management uses it to compare actual progress with the schedule. Quality uses it to see which joints are ready for inspection and where defects occurred. Cost control uses hours and consumables to check job estimates. When reports are consistent, you can compare progress per welder-hour across projects and notice trends, such as repeated crane delays or gas supply issues, before they become schedule problems.

Reading the example

The sample report lists a four-welder day shift with 29 hours of work, joints completed and one repair. It records consumables issued and returned, a short list of delays and one quality event. The next shift plan includes an NDT call-out, tying production to inspection. Use the joint progress table for a visual summary on the printed page. Replace all default text with your own entries.

Common mistakes

The report fails when it becomes a chore or a cover-up.

  • Copying yesterday's text without updating
  • Reporting percent complete without joint IDs
  • Omitting rework hours so productivity looks better than it is
  • No link to NDT readiness
  • Not signing, so nobody owns the report

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a daily welding report be?

One page is enough for most shifts. Include crew, hours, joints completed, consumables, delays, quality or safety events and the plan for the next shift. Attach details such as repair records separately.

Does this replace the weld traveler?

No. Travelers and weld logs hold the code records for each joint, welder, WPS and pass. The daily report summarizes progress for management and handover.

Should rework hours be included?

Yes. Show rework hours separately in the text so productivity figures reflect reality and recurring defects can be seen. Excluding them hides quality cost.

Can several shifts use the same file?

Export each shift as its own PDF or merge them in Word. Use the shift field and date so reports are easy to sort in the project folder.

If production data already lives in an MES or ERP, we can help generate this report from labor and quality transactions instead of retyping.
