Infor LN Text Editor and Text Fields: How They Work
infor ln text editor
Also searched as
- infor ln text field
- infor ln add text to order
- infor ln text management
Short answer
Infor LN stores long text such as order notes and item descriptions as text records linked to a data record, edited with the text editor from a text indicator or the text menu on the session. Text can be tied to groups and languages, and printed on documents when the report includes it.
Applies to: Infor LN 10.x, Web UI and Worktop. Menu entries and editor behaviour differ slightly by UI.
Add and manage text on a record
- 1Select the record, for example a sales order line, in its session.
- 2Open the text option from the specific menu or the text icon on the field.
- 3Type or paste the text in the editor, choosing the text group or type if prompted.
- 4Save and close the editor, then confirm the text indicator shows on the record.
- 5For multilingual text, add the text per language so documents print in the partner's language.
- 6Check the document report includes the text field and the right text group, otherwise it will not print.
- 7For bulk changes, use a conversion or script rather than editing one by one.
How text is stored
Text is stored separately from the main record in text tables and linked by a text number. That is why copying a record may or may not copy its text, depending on the copy function.
Because text is separate, reporting on it needs the text table joined, and exports of the main table do not include it.
Printing text on documents
A document prints text only if the report layout includes the text field and the text is of the group that the layout selects. If notes appear on screen but not on paper, check the report design and text group.
Common problems
Special characters can display wrongly if the encoding differs between the client and database. Very long text may be truncated in some outputs, and users may lack authorisation to change text on certain sessions.

Common pitfalls
- !Expecting text to export with the main table.
- !Typing notes in the wrong text group, so they never print.
- !Not maintaining language versions.
- !Pasting rich text with hidden characters.
How an ERP-grounded AI assistant handles this
An assistant grounded in LN can find which orders carry notes mentioning a keyword and summarise them, read-only. On-prem, the model stays inside your network.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open the text editor in Infor LN?
From the record in its session, use the text icon or the text entry in the specific menu, depending on the UI.
Why does my text not print on the order?
The report layout probably does not include that text group. Check the report design and the group the text was saved under.
Does copying an order copy its text?
It depends on the copy function and its options. Check the copy parameters and test.
Can I search text content?
Not easily from the standard screens. Query the text tables or use an assistant over the data.

Infor LN Report Designer: How to Build and Personalize Reports
Infor LN reports are designed in LN Studio's report designer, where a report is defined by its input fields, data selection through the session's tables and a layout of sections. To personalize a standard report, copy it into your customer VRC and edit the copy, never the standard object, so upgrades do not overwrite your work.
How-toHow to process a sales order to invoice in Infor LN
In Infor LN a sales order moves from order entry to cash through four linked steps: create and approve the Sales Orders session, release the order lines to Warehousing so a warehouse order is generated, confirm the outbound shipment, and then run the invoicing session that composes and posts the sales invoice to Financials. Each step hands off through an integration document, so a stuck invoice almost always traces back to a missing or unconfirmed step earlier in the chain.
How-toInfor LN Application Studio and Studio: overview and getting started
LN customization is done with the LN Studio development tool and the application customization features of the LN UI. Studio is used to create or change sessions, forms, reports, scripts and DAL logic, kept in a customer VRC so standard code is untouched. Start with a development environment, a customer VRC and a small change.
Error fixInfor LN bshell Process Stuck at 100% CPU: How to Diagnose and Fix It
A bshell process pinned at 100% CPU on the Infor LN application server almost always means one session is stuck in a 4GL loop, scanning an unindexed table, or waiting on a database lock. End the session from the Sessions Monitor first, then kill the OS process only if that fails, and check for a blocking database transaction before assuming it is a bug.
Error fixInfor LN Not Authorized to Run This Session: How to Fix It
Infor LN refuses to open a session with a not authorized message when the logged-in user's assigned role does not include that session, or when the session is blocked for the company they are logged into. Grant the session through Common > Authorization Management > Roles, or check the user's role and company context, and the session opens on retry. In most cases this is a permissions configuration issue, not a bug.
Error fixInfor LN DAL Out of Sync After a Custom Field: Cause and Fix
Infor LN throws a DAL, or table, out of sync error, or simply drops a new custom field silently, when a table's dictionary definition is changed but the generated DAL and dependent forms are not regenerated afterward. Running the standard sequence, table compile, DAL generation, then session/form compile, in Tools > Development after every dictionary change resolves it. Skipping any one of the three steps is what causes the mismatch.
