Aerospace Supplier OTD and Quality Rating Calculator

AS9100 requires you to monitor external provider performance and feed it into supplier selection and re-evaluation. This calculator turns raw receipt data into the three numbers most aerospace scorecards use: on-time delivery, lot acceptance and PPM, plus one weighted rating.

How to use it

Enter lots received in the period, how many arrived late against the confirmed date and how many were rejected or raised an NCR. Add pieces received and nonconforming pieces for PPM. Set the delivery weight; 50% is a neutral start, and many primes weight quality higher. The chart sweeps late lots so you can see how fast the rating falls as delivery slips.

  • Use confirmed due date, not original request date, if your procedure says so.
  • Count each lot once, even when it has several defects.
  • Review a rolling 12 months, not one quarter.

Reading the results

OTD and lot acceptance are straightforward percentages. PPM shows scale: three rejected lots can hide 1,500 PPM or 50,000 PPM depending on lot size. A supplier at 90% OTD and 94% lot acceptance will rate about 92% at equal weights; most programs set a green band around 95% and above, a watch band, and a corrective action trigger.

ERP notes

Receipt dates, promised dates and inspection results already exist in most ERPs: purchase order receipts, vendor performance reports and quality inspection lots. The usual problem is that the due date is overwritten when buyers reschedule, which flatters OTD. Keep the original and confirmed dates, and decide in the procedure which one drives the rating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good OTD for aerospace suppliers?

Many primes expect 95% or better on-time delivery and treat results below 85% to 90% as a corrective action trigger. Your customer flow-down and internal procedure define the exact bands.

Should I weight quality more than delivery?

Often yes. A late conforming part is recoverable, while an escaped nonconformance can ground an assembly or trigger a customer SCAR. Many scorecards use 60 to 70% for quality, but pick weights you can defend.

How is PPM calculated?

PPM is nonconforming pieces divided by pieces received, times one million. Always state the basis, such as received pieces or inspected pieces, so supplier and customer numbers can be compared.

Does AS9100 require a specific formula?

No. AS9100 requires you to define criteria and monitor provider performance. It does not prescribe a formula, so the weights and thresholds are yours to set, document and apply consistently.
