Infor LN Project Earned Value Calculator
Project accounting in Infor LN gives you budget, actual cost and progress, but the earned value indices are often worked out in a side spreadsheet. This calculator does that arithmetic in one place and exports to PDF or Excel for steering committees.
Your numbers
Your results
EAC uses the common assumption that current cost efficiency continues. Use a bottom up estimate if the cause of the variance is a one off.
Estimate at completion vs actual cost
Sweeps Actual cost to date from 300000 to 700000, holding your other inputs fixed.
Project reporting from LN
An optional review of how to automate earned value reporting.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use it
Enter the total budget, the percent that should be complete today, the percent that is actually complete and the actual cost. Planned value is budget times planned percent, earned value is budget times actual percent. CPI is EV over actual cost and SPI is EV over PV. The chart shows how the forecast rises as actual cost grows for the same progress.
Reading the results
A CPI of 0.9 means each dollar spent produces 90 cents of planned work, and the forecast at completion is the budget divided by CPI. An SPI under 1.0 says you are behind plan, but remember that earned value measures work value, not calendar days. Both indices below 1.0 together is the pattern that deserves escalation.
- CPI and SPI above 1.0 are favorable
- VAC negative means a forecast overrun
- Re-baseline only with sponsor approval
Common mistakes
The most common issue is subjective percent complete: claim progress only on finished, reviewable deliverables. Another is leaving out accruals or unbilled partner time from actual cost, which flatters CPI. And using this on tiny projects where the numbers move too much to guide decisions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a healthy CPI?
At or above 1.0 is on or under budget. Many teams act when CPI drops below about 0.9, because recovering later in the project is much harder than correcting early.
Is BAC divided by CPI the only forecast?
No. If the variance was caused by a one time event, a better forecast is actual cost plus the remaining budget. Use the formula that matches your understanding of the cause.
Can I use this for an ERP implementation?
Yes. Treat the implementation budget as BAC and measure percent complete by deliverables, such as configured and signed off processes, data loads and tested interfaces.
Where does LN hold the numbers?
LN Project holds budget and actual cost by project element and activity. Export those totals and enter them here, or check with your finance team which values are the agreed baseline.
If you would like project cost and progress pulled straight from LN into a live dashboard, we can build that with read-only access.
