Paper Size Chart: ISO A, B, C Series, Press Sheets and US Sizes

Print jobs mix ISO and US paper sizes every day, especially in export packaging inserts, manuals and labels. This chart lists trimmed sizes in millimetres and inches, plus RA and SRA press sheets used for bleed.

Trimmed sizes. Inch values for ISO sizes are rounded to two decimals. Press sheet sizes (RA, SRA) are larger than the finished size to allow for trim, bleed and gripper margin.

Print spec data in your ERP

Optional review of how size, sheet and unit data are stored for print jobs.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the chart

Search by the size name or by dimensions. For a quote, find the finished size, then the press sheet that gives bleed and gripper margin, for example A3 jobs usually print on SRA3 digital sheets. Export the table to Excel to share with customers who work in the other unit system or to attach to a print specification.

  • A series: each size is half the one before
  • B series sits between A sizes
  • C series is for envelopes
  • RA and SRA are untrimmed press sheets

How ISO sizes work

ISO 216 A sizes keep an aspect ratio of 1 to the square root of 2, so cutting a sheet in half across its long side gives the next size down with the same proportions. A0 has an area of one square metre. That makes scaling artwork between sizes predictable and gives clean paper yield when a layout is imposed on a larger sheet.

Worked example

A leaflet of A5 finished size can be imposed 4-up on an SRA3 sheet only if bleed and gripper margin fit. SRA3 is 320 x 450 mm and four A5 trims need 296 x 420 mm, leaving 24 mm and 30 mm for marks, bleed and gripper. Use this check before quoting a digital run.

Common mistakes

Quoting US Letter and A4 as interchangeable on a tight imposition. Forgetting bleed, which needs the press sheet to be larger than the trim. Entering inches into a mm field in the estimating system. Store the unit of measure with every paper size in your ERP or print MIS.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between A4 and Letter?

A4 is 210 x 297 mm and US Letter is 215.9 x 279.4 mm. Letter is slightly wider and shorter. Documents designed for one may need rescaling or margin checks when printed on the other.

What size is SRA3?

SRA3 is 320 x 450 mm. It is slightly larger than A3 so that bleed, crop marks and gripper margins fit when printed on a digital or offset press and then trimmed to A3.

How do I convert mm to inches?

Divide millimetres by 25.4. For example 297 mm divided by 25.4 is 11.69 inches. Round to two decimals for estimating and keep millimetres as the master unit where possible.

What is the DL envelope used for?

DL is 110 x 220 mm and fits an A4 sheet folded in thirds. It is a common mailing envelope for invoices and statements in countries that use ISO sizes.

Netray can help you map print specifications to ERP item and routing data so size, sheet and imposition information is not retyped.
