Oracle Fusion Integration Design Document Template

Interfaces are where most Oracle Fusion programs lose weeks. A short, consistent design document per interface keeps method, mapping, error handling and ownership clear before anyone builds.

Oracle Fusion Integration Design Document Template

Integration Design Document: MES work order completion to Fusion

Project: Fusion SCM Wave 1 Interface ID: INT-014 Date: 2026-11-02 Business owner: Plant Operations Manager

1. Business purpose

Report completed quantities and scrap from the shop floor so inventory and work order status in Fusion stay current.

2. Scope and systems

FrequencyEvery 5 minutes
Expected volumeAbout 800 messages per day, peak 100 per hour

3. Field mapping

4. Security and access

Document the integration user, assigned roles, data security scope, how credentials are stored and rotated, and network path between Plant MES and Oracle Fusion Manufacturing.

5. Error handling and monitoring

Failed messages are logged with correlation ID, retried three times with back off, then routed to an error queue reviewed by support each morning.

6. Reconciliation

Describe how counts and values are compared between Plant MES and Oracle Fusion Manufacturing, who runs the check, how often, and the tolerance for differences.

7. Testing and cutover

List test scenarios, test data, performance test volumes and the cutover steps for this interface including how in-flight messages are handled.

Starter document. Add API resource names, payload examples and release specific details from your own environment before approval.

Interface design review

Send an interface design and get comments on method, error handling and monitoring.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the template

Fill the fields at the top, then export the formatted document to PDF or Word. Complete the mapping table in a workshop with both system owners. Each interface gets one document and one interface ID, which becomes the reference for build, test and support.

  • One document per interface
  • Complete mapping before build
  • Obtain sign off from both system owners

Choosing the integration method

Use REST for transactional, near real time interactions. FBDI with scheduled ESS import suits high volume, batch style loads. Business events and Oracle Integration help when changes in Fusion must trigger outbound flows. File transfer persists for legacy partners. Choose based on volume, latency and error handling needs, not on habit.

Common mistakes

Documents often skip error handling, so the first failed message at go live has no owner. Reconciliation is another omission, which lets silent data drift go unnoticed. Security is often a footnote when it should list the integration user, roles and credential rotation.

  • Name who watches the error queue
  • Define a reconciliation check
  • List integration user roles explicitly

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a document for every interface?

For production interfaces, yes. Even a short one forces a decision on method, owner and error handling. Keep it brief for simple flows and detailed for high volume or financially significant ones.

REST or FBDI?

REST suits individual transactions and moderate volume with immediate feedback. FBDI suits large batches, where you load files and run import jobs. Many programs use both, depending on each interface's volume and latency needs.

Who approves the document?

The business owner for purpose and data, the integration developer for feasibility, the architect for pattern fit and security for access. All four signatures are included in the template.

Should payload examples be included?

Yes. Add sample request and response payloads from your environment after the first successful test. They shorten onboarding of new support staff and help regression testing after quarterly updates.
