SAP Controlling (CO) Database Tables List

When a controller asks why a cost center number differs between two reports, the answer is usually in the tables. This reference lists the main SAP CO, product costing and valuation tables with a plain description of what each holds.

SAP CO reporting without ABAP

An optional conversation on read-only, natural-language reporting over your SAP controlling data.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the list

Search by table name or keyword. Each row shows the area, so you can filter to cost centers, production orders, product costing or Material Ledger. The typical-use column tells you why you would open the table in SE16N or SE11. Export to Excel to share with developers building custom reports.

  • Search a table such as COEP to see its description
  • Filter by area to see all product costing tables
  • Export for your documentation set

How the tables connect

A cost center in CSKS is posted to through CO documents: COBK holds the header, COEP the lines, and COSP and COSS the period totals. Production orders start in AUFK with AFKO and AFPO, pull component demand from RESB, and settle through COBRA and COBRB. Product costing writes headers to KEKO and component splits to KEPH, while MBEW stores the resulting standard price or moving average price on the material.

S/4HANA differences

From S/4HANA, the Universal Journal ACDOCA stores finance and controlling line items in one table, and several older CO tables are accessible only through compatibility views. Custom reports that read COEP or COSP directly may still work through those views, but new development should read ACDOCA or the released CDS views. Always confirm in your own system because behavior depends on release.

Common mistakes

Developers often read COSP and COSS separately and forget that COEP holds the line detail with a different period structure. Another mistake is joining KEKO to MBEW without matching the costing variant and version. When pulling cost center names, remember CSKT is language dependent and CSKS is time dependent, so filter on validity date.

  • Filter CSKS on the validity date
  • Match costing variant and version in KEKO
  • Include language key when joining text tables

Frequently Asked Questions

Which table holds SAP cost center master data?

CSKS holds cost center master data with validity dates, and CSKT holds the language-dependent names. Hierarchy relationships come from the standard hierarchy tables. Always filter CSKS by validity date because a cost center can have several time slices.

What is the difference between COSP and COSS?

COSP holds totals for external postings, which are primary costs posted from financial accounting or materials. COSS holds totals for internal postings such as allocations and activity allocations. Together they give period totals by cost object and cost element.

Where is the standard price of a material stored?

In MBEW. The VPRSV field shows the price control, S for standard or V for moving average. STPRS holds the standard price, VERPR the moving average price, and PEINH the price unit.

Does ACDOCA replace the old CO tables?

In S/4HANA, ACDOCA is the single line-item source for FI and CO, and older tables such as COEP are provided as compatibility views. Behavior depends on your release, so verify in the data dictionary before writing new reports.
