SAP FICO Database Tables Reference (BKPF, BSEG, ACDOCA and More)

When a report is missing or a reconciliation does not tie, someone ends up in SE16N asking which table holds the data. This reference lists the standard FI, AA and CO tables with module and purpose so you can pick the right one first time.

Several of these tables behave differently in S/4HANA, where line item data lives in ACDOCA and older tables such as BSEG, BSIK and GLT0 may be compatibility views or empty. Confirm in SE11 for your release before building extracts.

Need finance extracts from SAP without the join work?

Tell us which reports your team keeps rebuilding and we will outline how a read-only query layer could produce them from your SAP data.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the table

Search by table name or by what you want to find, for example open items or cost center. Open the table in SE11 to confirm the fields in your release, then query it in SE16N or an ABAP report. Export the filtered list as a team reference when you design extracts.

  • BKPF plus BSEG joins on company code, document number and fiscal year.
  • Open and cleared items live in separate index tables (BSIK and BSAK).
  • Check client (MANDT) handling when you extract data.

Header, line item and index tables

The classic FI model stores one header in BKPF and many lines in BSEG. For speed SAP duplicates open and cleared items into index tables by account type: BSIS and BSAS for G/L, BSIK and BSAK for vendors, BSID and BSAD for customers. When an item is cleared it moves from the open table to the cleared table. Reports that need open items at a past date must therefore read both tables and filter on clearing date.

S/4HANA and the universal journal

In S/4HANA, ACDOCA is the single line item table for G/L, CO, asset accounting and Material Ledger. Totals tables such as GLT0 and COSP are replaced by views or calculated on the fly. If you are migrating custom reports, rebuild them on ACDOCA or the standard CDS views rather than on legacy tables that exist only as compatibility objects.

Common mistakes

A frequent error is reading BSEG without restricting company code and fiscal year, which is slow on large databases. Another is forgetting that CO line items sit in COEP by period and require COBK for the header. Developers also forget that texts live in separate tables, such as SKAT and CSKT, and need the language key in the join.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between BSEG and ACDOCA?

BSEG is the classic accounting document line item table. In S/4HANA, ACDOCA is the universal journal that holds all finance line items, and BSEG is provided as a compatibility view. New reports should read ACDOCA or the standard CDS views.

Why are open items in BSIK and not BSEG?

BSIK is an index table for vendor open items that SAP keeps for fast access. Reading BSEG for every open item scan would be slow. When items are cleared they move to BSAK.

Where are cost center names stored?

Cost center master data is in CSKS, with descriptions in CSKT by language and validity date. Join on controlling area, cost center and the validity range when you build a report.

Is this list complete?

No. It covers the core tables most FICO reports touch. Use SE11, SE16N or the data dictionary for the full picture in your own system.

If your analysts spend hours on table joins for each new finance question, a read-only natural-language layer over your SAP data can show the generated query alongside the answer. Netray can discuss what that looks like in your landscape.
