SAP CPI Message Volume and Cost Calculator
Integration platforms are easy to start and hard to forecast. This calculator builds a monthly volume from interface count, daily traffic, retries and splits, then prices it at the rate in your own agreement.
Your numbers
Resends caused by errors, timeouts or partner re-requests.
A splitter turning one batch file into many outbound messages multiplies the count.
Enter the rate from your own SAP agreement. This tool does not assume list prices.
Your results
Budgeting aid. How messages are counted and priced depends on your SAP contract and metric, so check your agreement before relying on the cost figure.
Monthly cost vs number of interfaces
Sweeps Number of active interfaces from 1 to 100, holding your other inputs fixed.
Integration landscape review
Optional: a review of your interface inventory and where volume and cost are concentrated.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use it
List your active interfaces and estimate average inbound messages per day for each from monitoring in the message processing view of your tenant or from the sender system. Add the retry percentage you see in failed message statistics and a split factor if any iFlow splits a batch into individual messages. Enter the rate per thousand messages from your contract. Nothing here assumes a list price, because commercial terms differ by customer and change.
The formula
Total messages equal interfaces times messages per day times days, increased by the retry share and multiplied by the split factor. Cost is total divided by 1,000 times your rate. Payload volume multiplies messages by average size to give gigabytes processed, which matters for memory, timeouts and any data volume based limits. Messages per second is a flat average and understates peaks, so use it only for order of magnitude capacity thinking.
Reading the result
The per-interface cost helps you spot interfaces that are expensive relative to business value, for example a polling interface that fires every minute and returns nothing. Compare the monthly total with what you are entitled to. If a splitter drives the volume, check whether the downstream system can accept a batch, since that can cut counted messages by orders of magnitude.
Common mistakes
People forget that a request-reply scenario or a multicast to three receivers may generate more than one counted message. Others leave out test and quality tenants, error alerts, and retries from partners using aggressive timeouts. Always reconcile your forecast with the first full month of tenant monitoring and with how SAP defines a message in your contract.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this SAP's official pricing?
No. It uses the rate you enter. Pricing metrics and what counts as a message are defined in your SAP agreement, so confirm there. The tool only does the volume arithmetic.
How do I get messages per day?
Use the monitoring view in your Cloud Integration tenant, filtered by integration flow and time range, or take counts from the sending system's logs for a representative period.
Do retries count?
They can add to volume, depending on how the retry occurs. A resend from the sender is a new inbound message, while internal retries of a queued message may be treated differently. Check your contract.
What is a split factor?
It is the average number of messages produced from one inbound message. An iFlow that splits a file of 100 orders into single orders has a factor of 100 for that interface.
If you want a monitored view of interface volumes across CPI, IDocs and OData in one place, Netray can build a private reporting layer for your integration team.
