Infotype numbers 0000 to 0999 are SAP standard, 1000 to 1999 are used by Personnel Planning and Organizational Management, 2000 to 2999 are Time Management, and 9000 to 9999 are customer-defined. Country-specific variants exist for several infotypes, so confirm in PA30 or table T582A in your system.

How to use the infotype list

Type an infotype number such as 2005 or a keyword such as overtime, bank or probation into the search box. Each row shows the infotype, its standard name, the functional area (PA for personnel administration, PT for time management, PY for payroll) and the data it stores. Export the filtered list to Excel to paste into a functional specification, a training guide or an authorization concept, where you often have to list which infotypes a role may display or maintain.

How infotypes are organized in SAP HCM

An infotype is a screen and a database table that stores time-dependent data about an employee. Infotype 0001 data is held in table PA0001, infotype 0008 in PA0008, and time data such as infotype 2001 in PA2001. Each record has a validity period, and many have subtypes, for example infotype 0006 subtype 1 for the permanent address. Infotype ranges also tell you who owns the data: 0000 to 0999 for personnel administration and payroll, 2000 to 2999 for time management.

  • Table name is PA plus the four digit infotype number
  • Subtypes refine the meaning of one infotype
  • Validity dates drive history and retroactive payroll changes
  • Authorization object P_ORGIN controls access by infotype and subtype

Time and overtime data for plant supervisors

Supervisors most often touch infotypes 2001 for absences, 2002 for attendances, 2005 for overtime and 2003 for substitutions. Infotype 0007 decides which work schedule rule applies and whether time is evaluated, while 0050 ties an employee to a time recording terminal. When overtime does not reach payroll, check that the employee has a valid 0007 record with the correct time management status, then look at how the 2005 record was compensated.

Common mistakes

The usual errors are editing infotype 0008 without checking the effective date, forgetting that retroactive changes force a payroll recalculation, and giving users broad infotype authorization instead of a specific subtype list. Another is assuming every number exists in every country. Several infotypes are country dependent, and some listed here may be hidden by the infotype menu configured for your company.

  • Always check the start date before saving a pay change
  • Use infotype menus (T582A, T588B) to expose only what each role needs
  • Customer infotypes in 9000 to 9999 are not on this list

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between infotype 2001 and 2002?

Infotype 2001 records absences, meaning time the employee did not work, such as sick leave or vacation. Infotype 2002 records attendances, time the employee was present but not on the usual task, such as training or a business trip. Both feed time evaluation and payroll, and both may be quota-relevant.

Where is overtime stored in SAP HCM?

Overtime is entered in infotype 2005 with a start, end, hours and a compensation type such as paid or time off. Time evaluation then uses it to create time wage types, and results are in cluster tables. Some plants instead derive overtime from clock events in 2011 without 2005 records.

Which infotype holds an employee's hourly rate?

Basic pay in infotype 0008 holds the pay scale group, level and wage types. For hourly paid staff the rate is a wage type amount or comes from the pay scale table. The capacity utilization level in 0008 and the hours in 0007 determine how pay is converted.

Can I add my own infotype?

Yes. Customer infotypes use numbers 9000 to 9999, created in PM01, with their own screens and tables. They are common for plant specific data such as certifications or PPE issue. Plan authorizations and archiving for them, since they are outside the standard infotype menus unless you add them.

If your HR data lives in SAP and you want plain-language answers over it, such as who has overtime above a threshold, we can build a read-only layer that respects your SAP roles.
