This is a design document, not the SAP configuration itself. Sampling procedures are created in QM master data (transaction QDV1) and valuation modes follow your release. Sampling rules must agree with the customer or standard you work to, such as ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 tables.

Optional sampling design review

We can review your sampling design and how it behaves in your inspection plans.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the template

Fill in the plant, the procedure name and the scope. Then choose the sample type, the valuation mode, the AQL and the inspection level. Add switching rules in the escalation field and print the document. Share it with quality for approval before the SAP consultant creates the master data. Keep the output with your change record.

What a sampling procedure contains in SAP QM

A sampling procedure in SAP QM combines a sample type with a valuation mode and, for AQL based inspection, a sampling scheme. The sample type decides how the sample size is determined, such as fixed, percentage, 100 percent or from a scheme. The valuation mode decides how results become accept or reject. The procedure is then assigned to characteristics in the inspection plan and can be controlled by a dynamic modification rule.

  • Fixed size, percentage, 100 percent or scheme based sample
  • Attributive or variable valuation of results
  • AQL and inspection level for scheme based procedures
  • Dynamic modification rule for stage switching

Common mistakes

The usual problems are mixing up lot size and sample size, selecting an AQL that the customer did not agree, using variable valuation without enough results to calculate statistics, and forgetting to link the procedure to characteristics. Another common issue is documenting switching rules in the plan but never creating the dynamic modification rule, so the stage never changes.

  • AQL chosen without a customer or standard reference
  • Variable valuation on tiny sample sizes
  • Procedure created but not assigned in the plan
  • Switching rules written but not configured

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I create a sampling procedure in SAP QM?

Sampling procedures are created in QM master data, for example transaction QDV1, and displayed with QDV3. Valuation modes and sampling schemes are customized separately, so check your own system.

What is the difference between sample type and valuation mode?

Sample type decides how many units are inspected. Valuation mode decides how the results are turned into accept or reject. Both are part of the same sampling procedure.

Does SAP deliver AQL tables?

SAP lets you define sampling schemes with sample sizes and accept and reject numbers. Whether you load tables aligned with ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 is a project decision, so confirm the content with your quality team.

Can one procedure be used for many characteristics?

Yes. A procedure can be assigned to many characteristics in different plans. Keep names meaningful so that planners can pick the right one.

Netray can connect an AI assistant to your inspection plans and results so teams can query sampling coverage across plants. We can review your design with you first.
