SAP ECC training path builder

Pick a role, the SAP ECC 6.0 modules you need and the hours you can spend each week, and get a dated week by week plan. Every lesson names the transaction codes to practice in SAP GUI, from VA01, ME21N, MIGO and CO11N to FB50, PFCG, SE80 and BD87. Tick lessons off as you go, save the plan to your account and export it for your team.

Practice in a sandbox, training or test client, never in production. Transaction codes are for SAP ECC 6.0 in SAP GUI; some depend on your enhancement package, active business functions and installed components (for example classic WM or SAP Gateway), and your roles decide which ones you can open.

How to use it

  1. 1

Pick a role. Choose the role you are training for. It selects the lessons and the modules a person in that role usually needs.

  2. 2

Choose modules. Add or remove modules such as SD, MM, PP, FI, CO, Basis or ABAP. SAP GUI navigation is always included. Turn on advanced lessons for configuration and design topics.

  3. 3

Set your schedule. Enter hours per week and a start date. Lessons are packed into weeks and given target dates on working days.

  4. 4

Practice in a sandbox client. Work through each lesson in a sandbox, training or test client, never in production, and tick it off.

  5. 5

Export or save. Download the plan as PDF, Excel, Word or CSV, or save it to your account to keep your progress.

Questions

Where do I find official SAP ECC training?

SAP runs its training through SAP Learning (learning.sap.com) for learning journeys and certification, and SAP Training (training.sap.com) for paid classroom and virtual courses. Most new SAP content targets SAP S/4HANA, so for ECC 6.0 the SAP Help Portal documentation for SAP ERP is the main official reference. Check course availability for ECC topics directly with SAP.

Is there an SAP ECC user guide?

Yes. The SAP Help Portal has the SAP ERP 6.0 documentation by enhancement package, up to EHP8, with application help per component such as SD, MM, PP, FI and CO. Basis and ABAP tools are documented under SAP NetWeaver. Your own company process documents should complement it, because customizing differs by system.

Is SAP ECC the same as SAP ERP 6.0?

ECC (ERP Central Component) is the core component of SAP ERP; SAP ECC 6.0 and SAP ERP 6.0 are used for the same release, which is part of SAP Business Suite 7. Enhancement packages (EHP1 to EHP8) add functions on top of ERP 6.0 without a full release change.

How long is SAP ECC supported?

SAP announced in February 2020 that mainstream maintenance for core applications of SAP Business Suite 7, including SAP ERP 6.0, runs until the end of 2027, with optional extended maintenance from 2028 to the end of 2030. Check your own contract and the SAP release strategy pages for the terms that apply to you.

What should an SAP ECC beginner learn first?

Start with SAP GUI: logon, SAP Easy Access, the command field (/n and /o), favorites, F1 and F4 help, variants and ALV lists, plus the organizational units and the material, customer and vendor master. Then learn the transactions of your area, for example VA01, VL01N and VF01 for order to cash, or ME21N, MIGO and MIRO for procure to pay.

What does an SAP ECC developer need to learn?

Classic ABAP in SAP GUI: the ABAP Dictionary (SE11), reports and the Object Navigator (SE80), function modules and BAPIs (SE37), classes (SE24), the debugger, ST22 and ST05, enhancements with SMOD/CMOD and BAdIs (SE18/SE19), forms (SAPscript, Smart Forms, Adobe forms) and IDoc and RFC integration.

Can I practice in our production SAP ECC system?

No. Use a sandbox, training or quality client. Many lessons post goods movements and financial documents, change customizing or create users and roles, which you do not want in production. Production clients are usually locked against customizing changes in SCC4 anyway.

Should I still learn SAP ECC if we are moving to S/4HANA?

If you run ECC today, yes: you need it to operate until cutover, and conversions start from your ECC data, processes and custom code. Many transactions carry over to S/4HANA, but some areas change, for example the business partner replaces separate customer and vendor maintenance. The S/4HANA readiness lesson covers the checks to start with.
