SAP Basis Transaction Codes Cheat Sheet

Every Basis admin keeps a list of the transactions they rely on. This cheat sheet groups the common Basis, security, transport and client administration t-codes in one searchable table so you can find the right screen quickly or hand it to a new team member.

T-code names are the standard English short texts. Availability and exact behaviour depend on release (ECC 6.0, S/4HANA, SAP NetWeaver version) and on your authorizations (S_TCODE). Some transactions are replaced by Fiori apps or the DBA Cockpit in newer releases.

Basis runbook assistant

Optional: ask how we can build a private assistant over your own Basis runbooks and SAP documentation.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the cheat sheet

Type part of a t-code, name or purpose into the search box, for example 'lock', 'trace' or 'transport', and the table narrows to matching rows. The Area column lets you filter mentally by job: monitoring, jobs, interfaces, transports, client administration or security. Export to Excel or PDF when you want a laminated desk copy or an onboarding page for a junior admin. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.

  • Search by purpose, not only by code
  • Use the Area column to learn the family of transactions around a task
  • Export to Excel and add your own notes or local Z transactions

How the codes are grouped

Basis work falls into a few families. SM-prefixed transactions cover system management: work processes, jobs, locks, updates and RFC. ST-prefixed ones are performance and trace tools. SE09, SE10 and STMS cover the transport landscape. SCC transactions handle client copy and administration, and the SU family plus PFCG and SUIM cover users and authorizations. Knowing the prefixes helps you guess where an unfamiliar function lives.

Common mistakes and release differences

Do not run SCC5 or SCC8 on a production client without a signed change request, and never leave SE06 or SCC4 change protection open after a task. Several screens have moved: ST04 and DB02 are largely replaced by DBACOCKPIT, and some admin tasks have Fiori equivalents in S/4HANA. Always confirm the transaction exists in your release with SE93 or the menu path before writing it into a runbook.

  • Restrict SCC4, SCC5, SE06 and STMS in production roles
  • Check S_TCODE and the underlying authorization objects when a code is missing from a role
  • Keep a separate list of your own Z transactions

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these transaction codes the same in ECC and S/4HANA?

Most classic Basis transactions such as SM50, SM37, SU01, PFCG and STMS exist in both. Some database and monitoring screens are replaced by DBACOCKPIT or Fiori apps, so check your release before documenting a procedure.

How do I find a transaction code for a function I only know by name?

Use the search box here, or in SAP use the menu path or table TSTCT, which stores transaction short texts by language. SE93 shows the program behind a code and its authorization settings.

Why can I not run a transaction that is listed here?

You need the authorization object S_TCODE for that code plus whatever objects the program itself checks. Use SU53 right after the failure to see which authorization check failed.

Can I add our custom Z transactions?

Export the table to Excel and add your own rows there. The online reference stays fixed, but the exported file is yours to extend for team documentation.

If your Basis team spends time answering the same 'where is this setting' questions, we can put a private assistant over your runbooks and SAP documentation on your own servers.
