Nadcap Checklist: AC7004 Self-Audit and Commodity Audit Criteria Reference

Nadcap audits are run against PRI checklists, so the most useful preparation is a self-audit against the same topics. This page gives you a practical self-audit checklist based on the quality system themes in AC7004, plus a guide to which commodity criteria apply to your processes.

Personnel, equipment and calibration

Process control and records

Corrective action and audit readiness

This is an independent self-audit aid written in our own words. It is not the PRI Nadcap checklist and does not replace it. Use it to find gaps before the formal audit, then run the official checklist for your commodity as issued through eAuditNet.

Which Nadcap checklist applies

Nadcap audit criteria are numbered AC70xx or AC71xx and are issued by PRI. AC7004 covers the quality system and is used with the commodity-specific checklist for your process. Examples of commodity criteria include AC7102 heat treating, AC7108 chemical processing, AC7109 coatings, AC7110 welding, AC7114 non-destructive testing and AC7116 non-conventional machining and surface enhancement. Always confirm the exact list for your scope in eAuditNet because accreditation is by process, and primes add their own supplements.

How to run the self-audit

Take a recent job and follow it from contract review through to shipment. At each step check the record against the requirement in the customer specification and the checklist topic. Mark any item that has no objective evidence, even if the activity happened. Close the gaps and repeat for two or three more jobs. Auditors choose jobs to audit and look for consistency, so every job must be traceable end to end. The critical items in the checklist are those that often turn into findings.

  • Use the revision of each specification listed on the actual work order.
  • Check training and equipment calibration dates on the day of the process, not the audit date.
  • Verify that parameter records show actual values, not just a pass tick.

Common reasons for findings

The usual findings are not exotic. They are out-of-date specification revisions at the workstation, missing records for a process load, operators whose qualification lapsed, calibration overdue on a thermocouple or gauge, unclear root cause in corrective actions, and unapproved subcontracted steps. A reliable fix is to give each special process a single owner responsible for the document set and to review the audit readiness regularly rather than only before the audit date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get the official Nadcap checklist?

Official checklists are issued by PRI through eAuditNet to accredited and applicant suppliers. This page does not reproduce them. Use the self-audit above as preparation and the official checklist as the controlling document.

What is AC7004 in Nadcap?

AC7004 is the Nadcap audit criteria for the quality system. It is used with the commodity-specific criteria for your special process, so the audit covers both your quality management and the technical process requirements.

How often are Nadcap audits repeated?

Accreditation is for a limited period that depends on the audit results and merit status, so well performing suppliers can be audited less often. Check your eAuditNet account and PRI rules for your actual interval.

Can a self-audit replace a Nadcap audit?

No. Only a PRI audit by a Nadcap auditor leads to accreditation. A self-audit helps you find and close gaps beforehand so the formal audit has fewer findings.
