NetSuite Manufacturing Process Maturity Assessment
NetSuite Manufacturing can be configured correctly and still produce unreliable numbers if the daily practices around it are weak. This assessment looks at ten habits that decide whether your work orders, costs and reports can be trusted.
1. How accurate are your BOMs compared with what the floor actually uses?
2. How are component issues and completions posted?
3. How do you cost production?
4. How do planners see component shortages?
5. How is inventory accuracy managed?
6. How are custom scripts and workflows governed?
7. How controlled are roles and permissions for production users?
8. How do you handle engineering changes in BOMs?
9. How does month end close treat manufacturing?
10. How easily can managers get answers about production from NetSuite?
How to use the assessment
Answer each question for how things actually work today, not how they should work. Involve a planner, a shop floor lead and someone from finance if possible, since each sees a different part of the picture. The score is a percentage of the maximum, and the band tells you where to focus first.
What the questions measure
The questions cover master data accuracy, posting discipline, costing, visibility, inventory control, change control, permissions, close and reporting. These are the areas where NetSuite manufacturing problems usually originate. A low score in one area often explains symptoms in another, for example late postings causing both wrong WIP and false shortages.
- Data: BOM accuracy and engineering change control
- Execution: posting at the point of work
- Finance: costing rates, variances and WIP at close
- Control: roles, scripts and inventory accuracy
Reading your band
Low scores point to fundamentals, and the recommendation list starts with data audits. Middle scores usually mean the system is working but depends on a few people, so documentation and visibility give the best return. High scores mean you should protect what you have through reviews and sandbox testing rather than adding more customization.
Common mistakes
Teams sometimes score themselves on intent rather than practice, or answer from the viewpoint of a single department. Another trap is jumping to new tools before fixing posting discipline. Better dashboards on late or inaccurate data only make the wrong numbers easier to see.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this an official NetSuite assessment?
No. It is an independent self check based on common manufacturing practices. It does not measure licensing or compliance, and it is not produced or endorsed by the software vendor.
Who should complete it?
Ideally a small group: the NetSuite administrator, a production planner and a finance representative. Different roles often answer the same question differently, and the disagreement is itself useful information.
What score should I aim for?
There is no ideal number. A score in the 70 to 89 band is a reasonable target for most plants. Use the individual answers more than the total, because a single zero on posting discipline can outweigh good scores elsewhere.
Does the tool store my answers?
The score is calculated in your browser. You can export the result for your own records. Nothing is required to be sent to us to use the assessment.
If you want a candid view of your NetSuite manufacturing setup, we can run a short review with your admin and finance lead and share findings you can act on.
