PPAP Example: A Filled-In Package with All 18 Elements
This PPAP example shows a filled-in package for a stamped steel bracket, listing what goes in each of the 18 elements, who owns it and what status it is in. Edit the rows for your own part and export the list to Excel as a submission tracker.

This is an illustration for a stamped steel bracket. Which elements apply, and how much detail each needs, is set by your customer and the submission level. Do not copy values into a real submission; use your own data, your customer forms and their portal rules. The part submission warrant is the AIAG form or the customer-approved equivalent.
PPAP package completeness check
Optional: we can cross-check your package for missing characteristics and revision mismatches.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use this example
Read the sample rows to see what evidence satisfies each element, then overwrite them with your own part. Mark an element Not required only when the customer has confirmed it, as the example does for engineering approval and appearance. Add owners and due dates, and update the status daily during the final two weeks. The page count helps you check that nothing is missing before the package is uploaded to the customer portal.
- Replace each example description with your own evidence
- Confirm the required level before deciding what is not required
- Keep the same part number and revision on every document
- Complete the warrant last, when every other element is ready
What each element proves
The first group proves you built to the right design: design records, change documents and engineering approval. The second group proves your process is planned: the flow diagram, FMEAs and control plan. The third proves it works: measurement system studies, dimensional results, material and performance tests, and initial process studies. The last group covers supporting items: laboratory documentation, appearance approval, samples, master sample, checking aids, customer requirements and the warrant that ties it together.
Reading the sample
Notice how elements link to each other. The control plan lines map to the PFMEA, the dimensional results cover the same 42 characteristics as the ballooned print, and the capability studies are run on the special characteristics flagged in the FMEA. Auditors and customer engineers often check these links first. Inconsistent revision levels or missing characteristics are the most common reasons for rejection.
Common mistakes
Submitting data from the wrong revision, dimensional results with no pass or fail, a control plan that does not match the PFMEA, capability studies with too few pieces, and an unsigned warrant. Also watch for expired lab accreditation and missing customer-specific requirements, which cause surprise rejections even when the technical data is sound.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the 18 PPAP elements?
Design records, engineering change documents, customer engineering approval, DFMEA, process flow, PFMEA, control plan, measurement system studies, dimensional results, material and performance tests, initial process studies, laboratory documentation, appearance approval, sample parts, master sample, checking aids, customer-specific requirements and the part submission warrant.
Do I need all 18 elements every time?
No. You must keep records for all of them, but what you submit depends on the level and the customer. Some elements, such as appearance approval or customer engineering approval, may not apply to your part.
Where can I get the official PPAP forms?
The part submission warrant and reference manual come from AIAG, and many customers supply their own forms or portal templates. This example is a guide to content and is not a replacement for those forms.
How many parts and pieces are needed?
It depends on the customer and the element. Initial process studies often use around 100 consecutive pieces and dimensional results use a defined number of parts per cavity. Always confirm quantities with your customer's supplier quality contact.
If your drawings, inspection results and supplier documents are spread across ERP, PLM and file shares, we can build a private AI layer on your own servers to assemble and check a PPAP package for review.
