SAP EWM RF Transaction Test Script Worksheet

RF (radio frequency) mobile transactions are where warehouse workers meet SAP EWM every minute. Test them with real scanners, real labels and real users. This worksheet gives you a structured script and a running pass rate.

Set Passed to 1 when the result is Pass so the pass rate is calculated. Add rows for every device model, language, user role and printer you support.

Test data generation

Optional: ask how test scenarios could be generated from your configuration.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the worksheet

Add one row per test case with the steps, the expected outcome and a tester. During the session, set the result and mark Passed as 1 for a pass. Reference a defect ID for anything that fails. The pass rate updates as you go. Export to Excel for the test report and keep one copy per test cycle so you can compare cycles.

  • Use real devices, not only a desktop simulator
  • Test with each user role and each language
  • Include error paths, not only happy paths
  • Record defect IDs for traceability

What to cover

Cover inbound putaway, outbound picking, replenishment, internal moves, physical inventory counts, handling unit creation and packing, plus exception paths such as short picks and wrong bins. Add tests for scanning behaviour: barcodes with different symbologies, damaged labels and rapid repeated scans. Also test log-on, session timeout and what happens when the network drops mid-task, because that happens on real floors.

Reading the pass rate

The pass rate is passed tests divided by total tests, shown as a percentage. A high rate with many Not run rows is misleading, so also watch the count of untested items. Agree an exit criterion before UAT, for example all critical scenarios passed and no open high-severity defects, instead of aiming at one number.

Common mistakes

RF tests often miss the details workers care about.

  • Testing only with developer user IDs
  • Skipping printer and label tests
  • Ignoring screen layout on small devices
  • No test of network loss during a task

Frequently Asked Questions

How many RF test cases do I need?

Enough to cover each process, role, device type and exception path. For a typical warehouse that is dozens, not hundreds. Prioritise by business risk and daily volume.

Who should run the tests?

Warehouse super users should run them, with consultants observing. Workers find usability problems that developers and consultants overlook.

Do I test in production?

Run tests in a quality system with production-like data and a final smoke test during cutover. Avoid creating test stock in production unless there is an agreed clean-up procedure.

Is the pass rate formula exact?

It uses your Passed column, so it depends on you entering 1 for passes. It counts every row, including Not run and Blocked tests.

If you want to generate test data and expected results from your own EWM configuration inside your network, we can build a private tool for it.
