India Import Landed Cost Calculator with BCD, SWS and IGST

Indian importers price stock on landed cost, not on the supplier invoice. Customs duty is computed on assessable value in a cascading order, and IGST is charged on the sum including duty. This calculator follows that order and shows both landed cost and the cash you need at the port.

Landed cost audit

Want booked landed cost compared with bill of entry data? Ask for an optional expert review.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use it

Enter the FOB value, freight and insurance, the customs exchange rate and the duty rates for your HS code. Add clearing and local charges in rupees and the quantity. The tool shows the assessable value, each duty element, landed cost per unit and the total cash outflow. Use the exchange-rate chart to see how a movement of a few rupees changes unit cost before you fix a selling price in Tally Prime or SAP Business One.

Calculation order

Assessable value is CIF converted at the notified customs rate. Basic customs duty is a percentage of assessable value. The social welfare surcharge is 10% of BCD where applicable. IGST is charged on assessable value plus BCD plus surcharge. For a registered business with ITC, IGST is a creditable tax and does not enter inventory cost, so landed cost is assessable value plus BCD plus surcharge plus clearing charges. Cash outflow includes IGST until it is claimed.

  • Anti-dumping, safeguard and cess duties are not included.
  • Exchange rate differences between invoice and customs rate go to costing.
  • Duty exemptions under free trade agreements need a certificate of origin.

Booking it in your ERP

In SAP Business One use landed costs on the goods receipt PO to spread customs and freight over items by value or weight. In Tally Prime, record purchase expenses against the stock item using additional cost allocation. Always keep the bill of entry number with the voucher, because the IGST credit in GSTR-2B comes from the customs data. A mismatch between the bill of entry and the books is a frequent cause of ITC reconciliation work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is IGST excluded from landed cost?

A registered business can claim IGST paid on imports as input tax credit, so it is not a cost. If your goods are for exempt supplies or credit is blocked, add IGST to inventory cost instead.

Which exchange rate applies?

The rate notified by CBIC for the date of the bill of entry, which differs for imports and exports and is updated periodically. It is usually not the same as the bank rate on payment day.

What if insurance is already on the invoice?

If the contract is CIF, set freight and insurance to the amounts embedded in the price or enter FOB as the CIF value with zero freight and insurance. Avoid counting the same cost twice.

Is the surcharge always 10%?

The social welfare surcharge has been 10% of the basic duty for most goods, but exemptions exist. Check the tariff entry for your item and any notification that exempts it.
