Laser Module Final Test Data Worksheet
Laser and optical modules are usually tested one serial number at a time against a power window. This worksheet logs the test, computes efficiency and shows pass or fail so first pass yield is visible at a glance.
| Serial number | Test date | Drive current (A) | Voltage (V) | Optical power (W) | Min power (W) | Max power (W) | Wall-plug efficiency (%) | Pass (1=yes) | Tester | |

Wall-plug efficiency is optical output power divided by electrical input power (current times voltage). Adapt columns to your module, for example wavelength, beam quality or thermal data.

How to use the worksheet
Enter each unit with drive current, voltage and measured optical power, together with the minimum and maximum power from the product specification. The sheet computes wall-plug efficiency and a pass flag. The summary calculates first pass yield from the number of passing units. Export the table to Excel to attach to the build record.
- One row per serial number and test
- Use the same calibrated power meter
- Keep the spec window per product revision
- Retest failures in new rows to preserve history
Reading the results
Wall-plug efficiency equals optical power divided by electrical power. For the first example row, 10.4 W out and 22.8 W in gives about 45.6 percent. A unit above the maximum power can fail too if the specification is a window, because it may indicate a measurement or alignment problem rather than a good unit.
Common mistakes
Frequent errors are testing before thermal stabilization, using an uncalibrated meter, changing spec limits between rows without noting the revision, and overwriting failed test results instead of retesting in a new row. Keep traceability to the meter calibration ID in your records.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is first pass yield?
The share of units that pass test the first time without rework or retest. Here it is calculated as passing rows divided by total rows, so enter only first attempts if you want a true first pass figure.
Can I log more parameters?
Yes. Export to Excel and add columns such as center wavelength, spectral width or slope efficiency, or request a custom layout.
Why does a high power reading fail?
The formula treats the spec as a window. If you only have a minimum limit, set the maximum to a very high number so only low readings fail.
How is efficiency computed?
Optical power divided by the product of drive current and voltage, shown as a percentage. It describes electrical to optical conversion at the test point.
If test data is retyped into your ERP, Netray can help capture results from your stations and attach them to the work order.
