Oracle EBS Engineering Change Order (ECO) Request Template
Engineering change orders in Oracle Engineering work best when the business case and affected objects are agreed before the ECO is keyed. This request template captures them so the change control board can decide quickly.

Approvals
A starting point for your change control procedure, not an official Oracle form. Adjust fields to your quality system and the ECO workflow configured in your EBS instance.
Change impact from live data
Optional expert review of how to show where-used and open job impact directly from your EBS data.
Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.
How to use the template
Complete the header, describe the change and the evidence, then state the revision and effectivity. List every object that must change: bills of material, routings, drawings, work instructions and supplier arrangements. Export as PDF for the change board. Once approved, create the ECO in Oracle with the same change number and attach this document for traceability.
- State what changes and why in plain language
- Decide disposition of existing stock before approval
- Name an owner for every affected object
How effectivity works
In Oracle, an ECO schedules changes to a bill of material or item revision on an effective date. Components can be added, disabled or changed in quantity, and open jobs may or may not pick up the change depending on how you manage them. Agree whether the change applies by date, by lot or serial number range, or from a specific job, and record that decision here so production and purchasing know the cut-in point.
Choosing the disposition
Use up is cheapest when the old part is acceptable until depleted. Rework or scrap is necessary when the old design is unsafe or non-conforming. Return to supplier applies to purchased parts that are still returnable. Whichever you pick, ask planning to adjust purchase orders and safety stock so you do not buy the old component after the cut-in date.
Common mistakes
Changes fail when affected routings and work instructions are forgotten, when open jobs keep issuing the old component, or when suppliers learn about the change late. For regulated products such as aerospace or medical, record approvals and evidence carefully because they are part of configuration control. Do not reuse a change number for a different change, and close the ECO promptly after implementation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is ECO the same as ECN?
In practice the terms overlap. Some companies use ECR for a request, ECO for the authorised order, and ECN for the notice sent out. Oracle Engineering uses engineering change orders. Align the wording with your own procedure.
Does this create the ECO in Oracle?
No. It is a request and approval document. After approval an engineer keys the ECO in Oracle Engineering or loads it using your normal method.
What should be attached?
Drawings, test reports, complaint data, supplier quotations and any risk assessment. Attach whatever the change board needs to decide without calling you.
How do open jobs get handled?
Decide per job whether to complete on the old revision, rework, or reissue. Record the decision in the affected objects table so production and planning act consistently.
If you want ECO status, affected items and open job impact visible from your ERP data, Netray can design a private reporting layer.
