Fusion design glossary review

Send us your organization design and we will check it against common EBS carry over mistakes.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the lookup

Type any word in the search box, for example locator, work definition or business unit, and the table filters live. Use the Product area column to scan one module at a time. Export to Excel and hand it to the functional team at the start of a migration workshop so everyone uses the same words from day one.

  • Search either the Fusion or the EBS word
  • Filter by product area before design sessions
  • Export as the glossary page of your design document

Where the translation is not one to one

Three mappings cause most confusion. The EBS operating unit became a business unit with function specific roles, so one Fusion BU can be the requisitioning BU while another is the procurement BU. The EBS bill of material and routing combine into one work definition. EBS concurrent programs become ESS jobs with different parameters and scheduling screens.

Common mistakes in migrations

Teams often copy EBS organization structures straight across and recreate a dozen inventory organizations that Fusion would model as subinventories. Another frequent error is assuming flexfields behave identically. Descriptive flexfields exist in both, but deployment and sandbox publishing steps differ.

  • Do not clone EBS org structure without a design review
  • Re-test every flexfield after deployment
  • Check cost organization setup before inventory go live

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Fusion business unit the same as an EBS operating unit?

It is the closest match, but a Fusion BU can have multiple business functions assigned, such as requisitioning, procurement or billing. One legal entity can therefore map to several BUs with different roles, which is a design choice rather than a default.

Does Fusion have a separate routing object?

No separate routing in the EBS sense. Operations, work centers and component usage are defined together in the work definition, which is versioned and tied to the item structure. Plan to consolidate your EBS BOM and routing data accordingly.

Why are some equivalents marked approximate?

Because Fusion redesigned some concepts rather than renaming them. Order orchestration, cost organizations and work areas behave differently from their EBS cousins, so treating them as identical leads to wrong designs.

Is this list complete?

No. It covers the terms that cause the most workshop confusion. Product documentation for your release is the authority, and new features change terminology between quarterly updates.
