Aerospace Lot Traceability Record JSON Generator

Traceability links a finished part back to the material heat, certificates, processes and people that produced it. This generator creates a clean JSON record for that link, useful as a design starting point for integrations, archives and supplier data exchange.

This is a generic illustrative structure, not an ERP or customer standard format. Map field names to your ERP, MES or customer data specification. Do not store sensitive export-controlled data where it is not permitted.

Plan traceability on your ERP

Optional: we can review how lot genealogy is held in your ERP and what can be exported.

Optional. The tool and every export work without this. No spam.

How to use the generator

Fill in the part, revision, work order, lot, heat number, specification and certificate reference, then copy the JSON. The output is a plain structure with arrays for serial numbers and special processes so you can extend it. Paste it into a test payload for an API, a document store, or a requirements discussion with your ERP team.

What traceability needs to capture

AS9100 clause 8.5.2 expects identification of outputs and traceability when it is a requirement. In practice customers ask for the link between serial or lot, material heat, certificate, special process records and inspection results. Retention periods come from the contract and are often long for flight-critical parts.

  • Material heat and certificate number
  • Special process supplier and certificate
  • Inspection or first article report reference
  • Serial numbers where required

Fitting it into your systems

Most ERPs track lot genealogy through lot or serial master and transaction history. The JSON here is intentionally neutral so you can transform it into the format your system expects. Validate against a schema, use stable identifiers, and avoid free text for keys that must join across systems.

Common mistakes

Missing the drawing revision, losing the certificate reference when material is split into child lots, and storing records where they can be edited without an audit trail are the usual failures. Treat the record as controlled documented information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an official aerospace data format?

No. It is a neutral example structure. Customers or programs may require their own data specification, which takes precedence.

Where do serial numbers go?

In the lot serials array. Add one entry per serialized unit where your contract requires unit-level traceability.

How long must records be kept?

As long as the contract, customer flowdown or regulation requires. Aerospace programs often require many years, so check the purchase order terms.

Can I add more fields?

Yes. Add operations, equipment, operators and inspection characteristics as nested objects, and keep keys consistent across records.

We can help build traceability queries and exports on your ERP data without moving it off premises. Ask if that would help.
