How to use the request form
Fill the plant, work center key and category first, then the capacity, calendar and costing details. Send the exported document to the master data owner and controlling for sign-off before anyone opens CR01. For a change request, put the current and new values side by side in the business reason so the reviewer can see exactly what moves.

What SAP needs behind each field
The category decides which screens appear. Capacity data (available capacity, shifts, utilization rate) feeds capacity leveling and the available hours you see in CM01. The standard value key defines which formula parameters appear in the routing operation, and the formulas map those to scheduling and costing values. Costing needs a cost center and activity types with formulas that read the standard values.
Common mistakes
Teams create a work center without a cost center link, so confirmations post no activity cost. Others copy a work center and leave the old shift sequence, which understates or overstates capacity. A missing standard value key hides the setup and machine time fields in the routing. Review the request against a similar working work center before approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which transaction creates a work center in SAP?
CR01 creates a work center and CR02 changes it. CR03 displays it. Mass maintenance of work centers is possible through standard mass change tools or a LSMW or migration cockpit load for initial data.
Do I need a cost center for every work center?
You need a cost center link if you want to cost operations or post activity from confirmations. Work centers used only for scheduling or as pure labor pools sometimes have no costing data, but this is the exception.
What is the standard value key?
It defines up to six standard values per operation, such as setup, machine and labor, and gives them names and units. The formulas on the work center then use them for scheduling, capacity and costing.
Can I reuse this form for changes?
Yes. Choose Change existing and record old and new values in the business reason. Keep the signed document as evidence for audit of master data changes.
