Module Fit and Gap Explorer

Oracle E-Business Suite modules: fit and gap explorer

Oracle E-Business Suite is a suite of separately documented applications (Order Management, Inventory, Work in Process, Advanced Supply Chain Planning, Quality, Financials and many more) that share one database, one item master and the Multiple Organizations model. This explorer maps the 12.2 product guides to your manufacturing requirements, names the module that covers each one, and marks anything we could not confirm in Oracle documentation as verify with vendor.

70 modules and products mapped (8 standard, 55 optional, 7 add-on, separate or third party) against 69 manufacturing requirements. Free, no login needed.

Your own requirements

Not in the library? Add it. It is listed in the report and the engineer review, but not scored.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Pick your requirements

Start from a preset such as Discrete job shop or Multi-plant, or tick requirements one by one. Set each to Must, Should or Nice to have.

  2. 2

    Read the fit

Each requirement shows whether an EBS application covers it, whether it needs a separate Oracle product such as Demantra or Agile PLM, a third-party product, or custom work, with the module name and the caveats.

  3. 3

    Check what you license

EBS functionality depends on which applications are installed and licensed. Use the module map to list the applications your fit relies on, then compare that list with your license.

  4. 4

    Compare and export

Compare the same requirement set with another ERP, then download the fit-gap report as PDF, Excel, Word or CSV, or save it to your Netray account.

Oracle EBS module questions

What are the main Oracle E-Business Suite modules for manufacturers?

Oracle documents each EBS application in its own 12.2 guide. For manufacturing the core set is Order Management, Advanced Pricing, Configurator, Purchasing, Inventory, Bills of Material, Work in Process, Cost Management, Quality, MRP or Advanced Supply Chain Planning, Shipping Execution, General Ledger, Payables, Receivables and Assets. Common additions are Warehouse Management, Mobile Supply Chain Applications, Process Manufacturing, Shop Floor Management, Project Manufacturing, Service Contracts and Field Service.

Are all EBS modules included in one license?

No. EBS is a suite, and each application has to be installed and licensed for its features to be available. That is why this map names the application behind each fit. Check your license before you treat a fit as available, for example Advanced Pricing compared with basic Order Management pricing, or ASCP compared with Oracle MRP.

Which EBS capabilities sit in a separately installed product?

Demantra (statistical demand planning and S&OP) and Production Scheduling have their own installation guides in the Value Chain Planning library. Oracle Transportation Management and Agile PLM are separate Oracle products that integrate with EBS. External tax engines such as Vertex Q-Series or Taxware and an EDI translator are third-party products.

Does Oracle EBS include a warehouse management system?

Yes. Oracle Warehouse Management runs on top of Oracle Inventory and covers license plate numbers, task management, wave planning, labor management, cartonization, crossdocking, yard management and 3PL billing. Mobile Supply Chain Applications provides the RF transactions. Slotting is not documented in the guide, so mark it verify.

Which EDI transactions does e-Commerce Gateway support?

On the customer side: 850 and 860 inbound to Order Management, 855 and 865 acknowledgments, 856 ship notices from Shipping Execution, 810 invoices from Receivables, and 830, 862 and 866 schedules into Release Management. On the supplier side: 850, 860, 830 and 862 outbound and 856, 810, 857 and 832 inbound. You still need an EDI translator.

What is the difference between Oracle EBS discrete manufacturing and OPM?

Discrete manufacturing uses Bills of Material, Work in Process, Flow Manufacturing and Shop Floor Management with discrete jobs and routings. Oracle Process Manufacturing uses formulas, recipes, validity rules and batches, with its own costing and quality. An inventory organization is set up as either discrete or process, and Cost Management documents transfers between the two.

How is the fit score calculated?

Each selected requirement is weighted by priority: Must 3, Should 2, Nice to have 1. A native module scores 100 percent, an add-on from the same vendor 75, a partner product 50 and a gap 0. Items marked verify with vendor count at their stated fit but are listed separately so you can confirm them.

How current is this Oracle EBS module map?

It follows the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 documentation library, which carries release notes through 12.2.15. Oracle ships new features to 12.2 as updates rather than a new major release. Features differ by patch level and license, so treat the map as a starting point for a demo or a review of your own instance.
