SAP Order to Cash (SD) Health Assessment
Order to cash problems in SAP SD tend to be quiet: a wrong price, an unnoticed block, an invoice that never posted. This short assessment scores eight areas that decide whether your SD process is under control.
1. How are prices maintained and controlled?
Think about condition records, validity dates and who may change them.
2. How often do users override prices or discounts manually on orders?
3. How are blocked orders (credit, delivery, billing) handled?
4. How well documented and tested is copy control?
5. How reliable is output (confirmations, delivery notes, invoices)?
6. How do you manage billing documents that do not post to accounting?
7. How good is master data for customers and materials in the sales views?
8. How easily can the sales team get answers on order status and history?
How to use the assessment
Answer based on what actually happens, not on what the process document says. Ideally have a key user, a finance colleague and an SD consultant answer together, since each sees a different part. Your score is a percentage of the maximum, and the band gives a short verdict and three actions to start with.
What the questions measure
The questions cover pricing control, price overrides, blocked orders, copy control, output, billing to accounting, master data and reporting access. They were chosen because they are where SD processes typically leak money or time, and they can be fixed with configuration, monitoring and ownership rather than with new software.
Limits of a self-assessment
A self-assessment shows where to look, not what is wrong. Follow up with data: count blocked orders by age, list billing documents not posted to accounting, and compare discounts with the price lists. A low score on one question with a high score elsewhere points to a single focused project rather than a redesign.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is SAP order to cash?
Order to cash is the process from receiving a customer order to receiving payment. In SAP it spans SD for the order, delivery and billing, Materials Management and Warehouse for stock movement, and Financial Accounting for accounts receivable and payment.
How do I find price overrides in SAP SD?
Compare condition records against the conditions on documents. Manual conditions appear in KONV on ECC or PRCD_ELEMENTS on S/4HANA with the manual change indicator set. A report on those rows by user and amount is a good starting point.
How many blocked orders is normal?
There is no fixed number. What matters is that every block has an owner, a reason and an age target, and that orders do not sit blocked for days unnoticed. Track the count and the average age by block type each week.
Do I need a consultant to run this assessment?
No. The assessment is designed for process owners to answer themselves. A consultant becomes useful when you want to verify the answers with data from the system and to design fixes for the weak areas.
If you want these checks run as data queries on your SAP system, with read-only access, Netray can scope a short review. Ask for it below.
