Epicor Shop Floor OEE Calculator
OEE is the standard way to say how much of your planned time produced good parts at the ideal rate. This calculator takes the numbers you can pull from Epicor labor and production reporting, such as clock time, quantity completed and scrap, and returns availability, performance, quality and OEE.
Your numbers
Shift length minus planned breaks and planned maintenance.
Fastest sustainable cycle from the routing or machine rating.
Your results
Performance is computed from the numbers you enter. If pieces produced stays fixed while downtime changes, the chart shows a mathematical effect, not a prediction.
OEE vs unplanned downtime
Sweeps Unplanned stops and changeovers from 0 to 120, holding your other inputs fixed.

How to use it
Enter the planned production time for the machine and shift, the unplanned stops and changeovers you recorded, the ideal cycle time for the part, the total pieces produced and how many were rejected. In Epicor, quantities and scrap come from labor and production reporting against the job operation, while downtime reasons come from whatever stop codes your shop floor module captures. The result is a single OEE percentage plus the three factors behind it, so you see which one to attack first.
The formulas
Availability is run time divided by planned time. Performance is the ideal cycle time multiplied by total pieces, divided by run time. Quality is good pieces divided by total pieces. OEE is the product of the three. The tool caps performance at 100 percent, because exceeding it normally means the ideal cycle time is wrong rather than the machine being faster than possible.
- World-class OEE is often quoted near 85 percent, but this varies by process
- Many discrete shops sit between 40 and 65 percent
- Always compare like with like on the same machine
Reading the default example
The default shift loses 45 of 480 minutes to stops, so availability is about 91 percent. Performance is roughly 90 percent and quality about 98 percent, giving OEE near 80 percent. The chart shows that every 10 minutes of extra downtime costs about two points of OEE in this setup. That conversion helps justify quick-changeover work or a maintenance fix.
Common mistakes
The biggest data problem is ideal cycle time. Using the routing standard that was padded years ago makes performance look better than it is. Another is counting rework as good pieces, which inflates quality. Finally, do not compare OEE across very different machines without normalizing for how planned time is defined; scheduled maintenance and breaks must be treated the same way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I get the inputs from Epicor?
Quantities and scrap come from labor and production reporting on the job operation, and clock or run time comes from labor detail. Downtime depends on how your shop records stops, so check which reason codes you use.
What is a good OEE?
A figure around 85 percent is often cited as world class, but typical discrete manufacturing is far lower. Use your own trend by machine and focus on the biggest of the three losses.
Why is performance capped at 100 percent?
A value above 100 means pieces were made faster than the ideal time, so the ideal is probably too slow or the count is wrong. Capping prevents inflated OEE while you fix the standard.
Does OEE include planned maintenance?
Not in this calculator. Planned time excludes breaks and scheduled maintenance. If you want to include them, use total calendar time instead, which gives a measure called TEEP.
