SAP ECC implementation partner scorecard
Compare up to five SAP ECC partners or consultants on weighted criteria and see the ranking update as you score. Most ECC work today is support, enhancement package updates, carve-outs or preparation for SAP S/4HANA before mainstream maintenance ends at the close of 2027, so the interview bank tests the skills that matter there: SPRO and the IMG, transports, BAdIs and the enhancement framework, IDocs and ALE, CDS views and Fiori through SAP Gateway, SUM and Maintenance Planner, and custom code analysis with SCMON and ATC.
Neutral by design: this tool does not name, rank or recommend any consulting firm. You add the candidates.
Step 1: Add the candidates
Up to 5 partners or individual consultants.
No candidates yet. Add the partners on your shortlist, or start with placeholders and rename them later.
Step 2: Set the weights
0 ignores a criterion, 5 makes it critical. Share shows its part of the total.
Step 3: Score each candidate
1 poor, 3 adequate, 5 excellent. Use the arrow keys inside a score row.
Add a candidate in step 1 to start scoring.
Step 4: Weighted ranking
Scores are normalized to 100 over the criteria you have scored.
The ranking appears here once you add candidates and score them.

ECC interview question bank
27 questions by role, each with what a strong answer covers. Add questions to your interview pack; it is included in the export.
Red flags in ECC partner evaluations
Senior people in the sales meeting, unnamed juniors on the proposal
The team you interview should be the team you get. Ask for a key-person clause.
No ECC-specific answers on SPRO, transports, BAdIs or IDocs
Generalist consultants learn the product on your budget.
Only S/4HANA experience offered for ECC support or updates
ECC tables, transactions and update tools differ. Ask for recent ECC work.
Changes configuration or code directly in production
Bypasses transports, testing and audit trails.
Prefers modifying SAP standard objects over BAdIs and enhancements
Modifications must be adjusted at every SAP Note, support package and enhancement package update.
Plans direct table updates to load or fix data
Skips the checks that batch input, BAPIs and IDocs run, and can leave documents inconsistent.
Vague or wrong statements about ECC maintenance dates
SAP has published end-2027 mainstream and end-2030 optional extended maintenance. Planning should start from the published dates.
Plans to remediate all custom code without usage analysis
SAP recommends collecting SCMON and SUSG usage data first so unused custom code can be retired instead of remediated.
Leaves CVI and business partner conversion until later
SAP requires CVI and business partners in place before a system conversion to S/4HANA.
Low fixed fee with broad exclusions
Exclusions such as data, interfaces, forms and custom code usually return as change orders.
Certifications claimed for the firm but not the named people
Ask for each consultant's exam code and Credly badge and verify it.
Unverifiable claims of exclusive status, special SAP terms or guaranteed timelines
Ask for written evidence. Real partners describe risks, not guarantees.
How to use the ECC partner scorecard
- 1
Add the candidates
Enter up to five partners or individual consultants. Use the names you have in your shortlist; nothing leaves your browser unless you save or ask for a review.
- 2
Set the weights
Weight each criterion from 0 (ignore) to 5 (critical). An ECC support or enhancement package project should weight on-prem Basis and ABAP depth higher; an S/4HANA preparation project should weight custom code analysis, CVI and methodology higher.
- 3
Interview with the question bank
Pick questions by role. Ask functional questions to the module consultants (FI/CO, MM, SD, PP), technical questions to the ABAP and Basis people who will touch your system, and project-lead questions to the named project manager, not the sales lead.
- 4
Score each candidate 1 to 5
Score against the evidence notes for each criterion and tick any red flags you heard. The weighted ranking and chart update instantly.
- 5
Export or save
Download the scorecard as PDF, Excel, Word or CSV for your selection committee, or save it to your Netray account to continue later.
Questions
What should an SAP ECC implementation or support partner be able to show me?
A named team with ECC experience in your modules, a plan with test cycles, transport freezes and cutover rehearsals, sample deliverables from a past ECC project, and recent references on a similar enhancement package and scope. They should explain how they handle BAdIs, IDocs, SAP Notes and transports, and how today's ECC work affects a later S/4HANA move.
When does SAP maintenance for ECC end?
SAP has announced mainstream maintenance for core SAP Business Suite 7 applications, including SAP ERP 6.0 with enhancement packages 6 to 8, until the end of 2027, with optional extended maintenance from 2028 to the end of 2030 at a premium of two percentage points on the maintenance basis. Releases below enhancement package 6 ended mainstream maintenance earlier. Verify your own contract terms with SAP.
Should I still invest in ECC if I am moving to S/4HANA?
Some ECC work reduces S/4HANA cost and risk: collecting custom code usage with SCMON and SUSG, running ATC readiness checks and SAP Readiness Check, activating CVI and converting customers and vendors to business partners, and cleaning data. A partner should separate this preparation from new ECC development that will need rework.
Which SAP certifications should ECC consultants have?
SAP ran associate certifications for SAP ERP 6.0 modules tied to enhancement package releases, and newer exams focus on S/4HANA. Ask for each named consultant's exam code, date and Credly badge, and check whether it is current under SAP's stay-certified rules. Certification shows product training; references and interviews show delivery skill.
Should I hire a partner firm or an independent SAP ECC consultant?
A firm can cover several modules plus ABAP and Basis, handle holidays and absorb turnover, while an independent consultant can be more senior per hour but is a single point of failure. Score both on the same criteria. Most ECC projects need functional, ABAP, Basis and project-lead coverage.
How should I weight the criteria?
Start from the preset closest to your project. Enhancement package and support package updates should weight product depth and on-prem Basis experience highest. S/4HANA preparation should weight methodology, team and product depth higher. Set a criterion to 0 if it does not matter to you.
What about SAP Solution Manager?
SAP states that mainstream maintenance for SAP Solution Manager 7.2 ends at the end of 2027, that extended maintenance to 2030 covers only some functions for customers with Business Suite extended maintenance, and recommends moving to SAP Cloud ALM. Ask candidates how they would run change control and testing during that move.
Is my data stored anywhere?
The scorecard runs in your browser. It is only stored if you choose to save it to your Netray account, and only sent to us if you ask an engineer to review it.
